Apart from the staple layout we know and love from the Amatic brand, Grand X doesn’t feel like their usual real cash slot in the slightest; it has a very specific aesthetic, that isn’t old school and it isn’t new school, it just is.

It feels like a cheesy game show activity, where the contestants battle it out for the huge cash prize. Going off of that, it should put us off, but we’re actually eating it up and loving this new direction – it just feels so far removed from Amatic’s norm.

Moreover, you have a new and improved bonus round, which we hardly ever see implemented in any of the company’s titles. Usually you get the Bonus Spins, where the reels give out several free games, but that’s about it, but here you have a wheel of fortune setup. It’s a small change, but boy does it transform the atmosphere of the entire game.

Neon Lights

Las Vegas is known as a city of lights: lighting the way to all sorts of pleasures, and as such is one of the gaming capitals of the world. It has a feel to it all of its own, that many an online casino tries to replicate and capture in one way or another. Grand X does a brilliant job of translating that intensity of fun and action into 5 reels and 10 winlines.

That isn’t only done by having the neon coloured design, but also the traditional casino games, like Blackjack, Poker, Roulette and so on. They’re all here to give you an extravaganza of recreation in one easy to play title.

Which Game Is King?

The dice are in line, the roulette wheel is spinning, and the cards are waiting to show their hand and so there comes the question of which is best? Normally it would all be down to personal opinion, but sadly the paytable decides here, and it’s the die and roulette that comes out on top. They’re joint value, whilst Blackjack comes in second. If you disagree, don’t shoot the messengers.

From there on there’s the Grand X icon, which packs a big punch, and then very traditional icons such as red 7s and card suits. Any other circumstance and we’d probably put it down to poor design that not every tile has been made exclusively, but with the theme of the slot, they all work together rather well.

Bring on the Bonus!

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty of the all new bonus, or new as far as Amatic is concerned. This large wheel of prizes will feel like a revelation to all you loyal players, and a surprise for those of you that haven’t played before. To get started you need but three icons, which is a lot more manageable than five of a kind, especially with the volatility of Amatic; the brand is known to be hard to beat.

Whatever you land on can be multiplied by your initial stake, and best of all, the wheel can be spun again if you’re lucky enough to trigger it. As far as immersion goes, the round is lukewarm and without depth, but the increase in tempo is welcomed, and thus revitalises the game for another couple of playthroughs.

Turning up the Heat

The Bonus Wheel is enough of a goodie for everyone to relish, but then there’s the gamble option at the end of every win. You can opt out of the feature if you’d rather by tapping on the ‘collect’ widget, but for those with fire in their veins and with a need for risk and adventure, you’ll want to play every time.

You’ll see that there’s two components to the gamble, with the suit option resulting in a quadruple of funds.

Grand Gives a Grand Feeling

Amatic have created something that, while not completely different from their usual, feels like a real innovation. The best bit, as we’re all probably thinking by now, is the bonus round.

You won’t get hours upon hours of joy every time you play, but you’re sure to have a familiar and comfortable slot to return to whenever you need a pick me up.
