Kitsch but Cool

Betsoft have eschewed the modern look with Vegas Joker and instead delved into the past for their inspiration. This slot revives the famous fruit machine arcade look that so many people will have played when they first started. The familiar appearance of two sets of 3 reels surrounded by running lights which flash on and off, and a screen covered with symbols and figures will either send you into fits of happiness or depression. This type of slot isn’t universally loved by everyone but it offers an alternative to contemporary titles and is a bit hit with the purists.

Moving on Up

If you’ve never played on a traditional fruit slot before, the set up to this kind of game can seem rather overwhelming at first. Rather conversely although contemporary slots are more complex, they can often appear to be simpler at first glance. However, once you’ve played the reels a few times you’ll soon realise it’s not as tricky as it first seems.

The bottom three reels are where everyone starts to play and they take up the most space on the screen. The relevant paytable lies directly to the right so there’s no need to navigate away from the gameplay to check out the prizes on offer. Everything you need to begin is held within the bottom half of the reels, making it easy for beginners to know where to look.

You’ll only get the chance to move up to the top reels if you score a win and even then, if you choose to collect the cash you’ll forfeit the opportunity. If you decide to go ahead, you’ll be effectively gambling with your winnings. You can only play on the upper reels for as long as you manage to keep landing a win. As soon as you lose, you’ll be sent back down to the base game again. You can quit at any point by using the collect button on the bottom left.

Prize Haul

The paytables on the main screen make it clear exactly what you’ll get in return for lining up matching symbols. To get any kind of win on the bottom reels, you’ll need three in a row. The paytable for the top set of reels is pretty similar, except it offers much bigger prizes. With 3 reels and 5 paylines, Vegas Joker isn’t quite as tricky as some of the original fruit games which only offer one payline.

You can choose to bet with either one or two coins per line, taking you up to a max bet of 10. The amount of bet influences the paytable, which has different columns depending on what you’ve chosen to bet with. During play the relevant column will light up so you know you’re looking in the right area.

Joking Around

Three reeled fruit style slots are still quite popular so if you want to have a go at another game which is similar to Vegas Joker you’ll have lots of choice. If you stick with Betsoft, Super Joker is a slot which shares many of the same traits including 3 reels, 5 paylines and a max bet of 10.

Reeling Around

Vegas Joker from Betsoft is an online video slot which closely resembles the old school style of play which was commonly found in land based casinos. Simpler than modern incarnations, these 3-reelers have an easy way of playing and once you’ve got your head around the mass of information text presented on one screen, you’ll realise that it’s quite relaxing by contrast. There’s none of the big bonuses or extra features on the reels, so for some this means it’s not as enjoyable, but it’s definitely a viable alternative that’s worth a try.
