Playtech Selected as Partner for Holland Casinos

In many ways, 2013 has been the year of newly regulated markets in the casino industry and 2014 looks set to continue the theme, with the US and various European countries all contributing to the overall growth of the industry. One country that is set to kick off 2014 in style is the Netherlands, with regulators well underway with mapping out new legislation that will allow a limited number of online operators in the country completely legally.

Holland Casino websiteWhile the proposals for the new laws are not even expected to be completed until 2014, with the first online licences issued in 2015, Holland Casino has already started and now finished a competitive tender process to select their online gaming partner. The winner is one of Europe’s most popular casino software providers, Playtech, ensuring that Dutch players will soon have access to one of the most impressive ranges of games out there.

Naturally, there is no better brand for Playtech to add to their list of partners when it comes to Dutch gaming than Holland Casino, given their legal monopoly on gambling in the Netherlands. It operates fourteen casinos across the country in all of the major towns and cities and sends proceeds directly to the Dutch treasury. While the workings of the online deal are not yet clear, what is clear is that Playtech has signed up with the easiest route of entry into the Dutch market.

Playtech will develop a custom platform under the deal, which will bring all of Holland Casino’s most popular land based games to an online audience.

Willem-Jan van den Dijssel, interim CEO at Holland Casino, commented: “We will soon offer our players a unique gaming environment and experience. Coupled with the expertise of Playtech, we look forward with confidence to the forthcoming regulation of the market.”

The news comes hot on the heels of an announcement that Playtech is not the only developer with an eye on the Dutch market. Microgaming has just launched language options across all of its mobile gaming titles, comprising Russian, German and of course Dutch. With Holland Casino’s land based monopoly not expected to continue into the online market, it is looking like an increasingly smart move.
