Heading out onto the Streets
The front UI shows a small street, under the sun, typical to the place where the festival takes place. Oh Catrina has a very beautiful design overall, as it does try to channel all things fun. In the background you’ll spot a narrow street, filled to the brim with flowers, candles and skulls. This may seem a bit weird at first to the uninitiated, but on a whole, it manages to capture the feeling of the festival perfectly.
If this background isn’t enough to make you smile, then the beautiful soundtrack will definitely do the trick for you. Unlike other games, it’s clear that Booming Games has gone to great lengths to ensure that Oh Catrina sounds just as good as it looks, with the developer certainly worthy of praise for such effort.
Lighting a Fire Under the Reels
Although its design may make this 5-reel, 15-payline game see out of the ordinary, Oh Catrina is still pretty average gameplay-wise. If you’re tired of clicking the same button over and over again you can just turn on the autoplay mode. By doing that your game will automatically keep on spinning, until you decide to get back in the game yourself. Cost wise the game costs a minimum of 0.45 and a maximum of 45.00 per spins, with the title being low to medium in variance.
In Oh Catrina you’ll find 8 basic symbols that can offer you quite an impressive win. The black and white family portrait and the bottle of tequila will offer you the smallest prize, and if you’re luckier you’ll find three colourful embroidered napkins, which feature skeletons among other creepy details. If you happen to stumble upon three decorated skulls, then you’ll definitely leave the game with a hefty reward. Although they are obviously rarer than the other icons, the bumper reward they offer more than makes up for it.
Letting Candles Lead the Way
Here’s where things really get excited. Outside of the symbols above, there are also two others that offer a lot more action. The wild in Oh Catrina is the candles symbol. This symbol can replace any other icon, which gives you the opportunity to land an extra combination or two. Although these combinations are more valuable, they are also harder to score.
The scatter of the game is the rose symbol. If you manage to land three of them then you get 10 free spins alongside a random symbol that will expand to cover entire reels at once. If you want to make as much money as possible, then you need to win as many free spins as possible, so keep an eye out for the roses in this game.
The Dead Will Rise
Oddly enough, there are actually a few other games that channel the horror and/or Mexican genre. Slowly growing in number, it appears that developers are finally giving both genres plenty of just attention. Looking at the leading picks, you’ll probably find that Jewels of the Dead, The Winning Dead, and Count Spectacular can all rival Oh Catrina in both style and execution. For the first two of these games, you’ll see that the undead theme is revisited, while the latter is more vampire centric, but still ties into the whole horror themed online slots genre.
Oh Catrina Ushers in Undead Action!
Overall, Oh Catrina is a pretty straightforward game, it excels in design and look, but other than that it’s a pretty basic slots experience. It’s a good game for those that want something simple that has incredible graphics alongside a beautiful soundtrack, but slots veterans may not get quite the same kick out of this particular Booming Games release!
