Classic and Shiny
40 Shining Jewels might be a rather retro slot game, the developers have still tried to up their game a little and upgrade the overall graphic quality a little. Instead of a non-specific background, you will be spinning the reels in front of a giant and elegant purple curtain that covers the entire screen and can be seen through the transparent reels as well.
Nonetheless, Casino Technology has included its usual command bar at the bottom of the screen, which ends up looking a little out of place given the relatively nicer looking background and reel symbols. But that is just a point of detail, and a matter of personal preference after all, so let’s get back to something a little more objective: the gameplay.
Easy Rules for an Easy Start
Playing 40 Shining Jewels is quite straightforward; you have 5 reels and 40 paylines at your disposal, which you can activate freely. The betting range on all 40 lines goes from 20 to 400 credits, so players will have to take some risks in order to win decent prizes here. You can choose to play in regular or autoplay mode as you see fit.
With its average variance, 40 Shining Jewels offers decent chances to score small to big cash prizes at every spin. The paytable contains an entire array of precious stones, from sapphires to emeralds and rubies, with a maximum cash prize of x300 available. Given the lower RTP of 40 Shining Jewels, this is actually not as nice a prize as you may think. You are much more likely to score x40 or x80 prizes during your best spins, as it was our own experience.
The red 7 is a very rare symbol, with a x1000 prize attached to it, but your chances to score such a big win are very low indeed. 40 Shining Jewels does have a few redeeming features, which we will introduce next.
The Crown Jewels
The royal crown is a beautiful, albeit bulky, item heavily decorated with gems. As the wild card of 40 Shining Jewels, you can use it to substitute for all of the precious stones on the reels, which is helpful in theory. That being said, the crown is only available on reels 2, 3 and 5.
The treasure chest is a simple scatter; 3 or more of them landing anywhere on the rels at the same time trigger a cash prize, which can go up to x500. However, no bonus feature or free spin round is associated with it.
Nothing Really Extraordinary
40 Shining Jewels is a visually upgraded version of a classic slot game theme, filled with familiar elements and with a rather generous paytable. The game has a rather high volatility and a low margin, which makes it more geared towards beginner players.
The parallel with 20 Star Party, another game from Casino Technology, is also quite obvious as both games are old-school and not too surprising. 40 Shining Jewels has the upper hand because of its higher number of payline that allow players a slightly large range of bets, and more ways to win at every spin at the same time.
