Experiencing an Explorers Dream
So, 1492 was a busy year for Spain. That year marked the end of the Reconquista, where all of Spain was recaptured from more than 700 years of Moorish rule. The religious and political upheaval wasn’t all that happened, though. That year, Christopher Columbus (Cristobal Colon in Spanish) made his journey to the New World, kickstarting the European colonization of the Americas in the process.
As much history and conflict surrounded his discovery, Columbus Treasure doesn’t touch upon any of the controversial aspects of his journey, but instead focuses on the immense treasure and riches that await explorers in the New World. Everything about this game’s design demonstrates the kinds of riches that await those who play, and in that regard Columbus Treasure does not disappoint.
Borrowing from Something Familiar
While you might initially think that Columbus Treasure would boast a refined, almost regal look, it’s actually quite Disney-like in its portrayal of its subject matter. If you’ve ever seen The Road to El Dorado, you can clearly see what the visual inspiration for this game was.
The almost child-like charm of this game belies the incredible potential to strike it rich here. The reels are adorned in rich medieval script, complete with visuals illustrating the very things that the conquistadors set out to find in the thick expanses of Central America.
What completes the immersion into this world are the rich sound effects and whimsical music track that ties everything together into one unforgettable experience. Full-screen mode manages to improve upon this even further, throwing in three-dimensional effects for that extra “wow” factor.
Navigating the High Seas
We’ve already mentioned that Columbus Treasure inherited a lot of the design features present in some of Casino Technology’s other games. That being said, Columbus Treasure manages to boast enough new and unique visuals to give it a life of its own.
The layout is fairly easy to use, as everything you need to use and know about is located below the 5 reels and 3 rows. You can bet anywhere from 0.10 to 5.00 per spin here, and you can also adjust the number of paylines in use (up to 10 per spin). You can also adjust the games graphics and sound options using the toggles at the bottom. Of course, the powerful autospin feature is there to take some of those clicks off your hands when you’ve been spinning the reels all day.
All in the Name of Progression
Keeping in line with their other titles, Casino Technology did not implement a progressive jackpot into Columbus Treasure. Don’t let that deter you, because each spin carries the potential to win up to 200 coins. As if that wasn’t enough, the scatter and wild symbols make it even easier to rack up those wins.
With 10 paylines, you can spend a healthy amount of cash on each spin without risking too much of your own finances. The way Columbus Treasure is balanced is actually quite brilliant – it’s more rewarding than a penny slot without forcing you to be a high roller just to spin the reels.
Columbus Treasure Ushers in the New World of Slots!
The verdict is in, as Columbus Treasure clearly pitches a home run. While relatively quotidian from a technical standpoint, Columbus Treasure has more than enough features to make it worth more than a few spins.
Boasting a uniquely dazzling visual style and a rich harmony of sound effects that make you feel as though you are really in 15th century Central America, the quality of this game makes it apparent that Casino Technology deserves all of the hype and praise that it routinely gets.
