When you’re first starting out, understanding the rules about paylines and coin values can take some getting used to, but with Electric Sam, developer Elk Studios has opted for a more contemporary style.

You’ll still be playing on five reels and this will be laid out in the usual way but rather than having paylines, the payouts are based on 243 ways to win. This means that you don’t need to remember complex patterns and you won’t be disappointed if you land adjacent symbols but then discover they’re not on a payline. With 243 ways to win, it simply requires the symbols to be on consecutive reels, generally moving from left to right (as in this game).

The other benefit to this set up is that you don’t need to wager an amount per payline, or decide how many paylines you want to have in play. There’s 100 coins which are played every time the reels are spun, and all you need to do is decide how much you want to spend on each turn.

The total min bet is set at 0.20 which equates to just 0.002 per coin, while the total max bet is 100.00, valuing each coin at 1.00.

You can alter your betting as often as you want and it can be helpful to change it depending on how well play is going!

Clever Stuff

Once you’ve gotten your head around the new style of play – which has many fans! – you’ll also need to consider the different betting strategies on offer.

If you prefer you can bet in the standard way, putting forward a stake which will remain unchanged unless you alter it. As an alternative there are three separate betting strategies which have been preloaded into the game: Jumper, Leveller and Booster.

With the Leveller, the bet will climb up by two notches once you’ve experienced five consecutive losses. If the same happens again it will jump up by a further two notches, effectively multiplying your original bet by 10. This type of bet is re-set when you win.

The Jumper only moves when you win, climbing up by one degree at a time. Once you’ve hit 10 times your original stake the increases stop. This strategy will be automatically reset when you lose.

Finally the Booster climbs up every time you have a losing turn. It only increases by one level each time and will be reset when you win. It stops rising when you reach 10 times your original bet.

If you choose to play one of the preset strategies you will not be able to start from a max bet of 100.00 as it won’t leave any room for increases. The table will show you the maximum sums you can bet for each different type of strategy.

No matter whichever strategy you choose to adopt, the theoretical RTP remains the same at 96%.

Trolling for Fun

You may associate trolls with being mean creatures that live under bridges and torment billy goat gruffs, but on this occasion they prove to be fairly decent beings!

You’ll need to line up symbols to win a prize, as described above, but there are also extras which can really help you to increase the possibility of a good payout. The Electric Sam logo is the wild and can take the place of all others on the reels with the sole exception of the free spins. The bell offers free spins with between 5 and 15 up for grabs but it’s the troll family themselves that offer the best prizes of all.

During the free spins mode, Sam Troll acts as a sticky wild, remaining in position until you get a prize. Sandra Troll hands out multipliers, increasing your wins by up to x10 if you land at least three of her tile while young Maggie Troll makes symbols implode. This makes them vanish from the reels, giving you extra chances to win without costing you any credits.

Electrifying Play

Electric Sam by Elk Studios is a fun-filled online video slot which falls within the fantasy genre. With cute troll characters, the reels are packed full of features which provide lots of different ways to win. Although newbies could play, the number of extras mean that it’s better suited to someone with a bit of prior experience.
