Not yet out of Africa
Stampede it taking you to the heart of the savanna, at dusk when the bright, orange sun slowly sets over the plain. Everything seems eerily quiet, and the sky looks as if it had just been set on fire behind the reels. The command buttons are located under the reels themselves, in a typical Eyecon fashion.
We were positively surprised by the quality of the graphics in Stampede. The background scenery looks almost like a picture taken from an award-winning documentary. You wouldn’t be surprised if a herd of wildebeests suddenly appeared, either. In a nutshell, Stampede seems to be off to a really good start.
Win in Any Position
As mentioned before, Stampede is a 243-way pay slot game, with 5 reels and a betting range going from 0.25 to 50 credits per spin. The bet menu will pop up on the screen whenever needed to help you pick your next wager. You might also want to try out the autoplay mode and see if luck stays on your side when placing the same bet several times in a row.
The relatively low volatility in Stampede makes it easy for players to win frequent small prizes. This will encourage high rollers to play big even more than usual in order to maximise the size of their upcoming rewards. You will find big card icons on the reels, plus wildebeests, rhinos, cheetahs and lions with a top reward of only x40. You can always use the gamble game to try and double each of your prizes during the game.
Tame the Mighty Elephants
The last two symbols available in Stampede are a little special and won’t behave in the same way as the rest of the paytable. The first one of them is a rising sun, available only on the 3 central reels. This wild card is able to replace the icons mentioned above, although without increasing their initial value.
The elephant is the king of the savannah for two reasons. As a scatter, it can pay up to x50 wherever it lands, and you may also unlock a free spin bonus at the same time. Choose freely between the different options offered to you, with up to 20 free games available, with a top multiplier of x10. This alone makes the elephant the single most important symbol in Stampede.
A Whole Continent of Possibilities
Queen Of The Nile 2 is an Aristocrat slot game that stays in Africa but offers a very different environment from Stampede. That being said, the basic settings of the game and bonus features are almost identical, making the overall experience very similar for players. Note that the volatility is still much lower in Stampede.
The wild, untouched landscapes of Africa have inspired many slot game developers over the years. If you are looking for a representative title for this trend, then you have to check out Africa Wild from Logispin. The general settings might be less ambitious than in Stampede, but Africa Wild is probably even nicer to look at, in our opinion.
A Challenge in the Wilderness
Stampede gave us the impression of a well-designed, modern slot game with classic but efficient features. The scattered elephants are the only gateway to the most interesting rewards of the entire game. As a result, you should really be keeping an eye out for them at all times, while betting as many credits on the reels as possible.
As a result, Stampede also struck us as being a little challenging, and so for different reasons. The paytable itself, first of all, is far from generous if we exclude the scatter wins. Secondly, the low volatility makes it tougher for players to reach the most interesting symbols, wilds included.
