Play Your Cards Right Slot
2 votes

Play Your Cards Right is one of the all time classic TV game shows. The programme was hosted by a true British broadcasting legend in Bruce Forsyth who immortalised some iconic catchphrases as players answered comical questions and guessed whether the cards on the board were higher or lower. The victorious contestants would then go on to play for some real cash prizes in the final round.

There’s plenty of money on offer in this 5-reel slot machine by Freemantle software thanks to a 1,000x total multiplier and a 750 max bet limit. On top of that, there is a handsome spread of bonus gameplay features, including two bonus rounds in which punters can maximise their winning potential.

Nice to Spin You, to Spin You Nice

Long before the days of scandalous reality TV and pyrotechnic filled quiz shows, Saturday night television was all about good honest fun. We mean, who would have thought that a game in which contestants simply had to guess whether the next card in a sequence would be higher or lower than the last would provide 248 episodes worth of entertainment? Perhaps part of the show’s long lasting success was the fact that good old Bruce Forsyth was steering the ship with his old school banter and effortless flair for show business.

Sadly, you won’t see Brucey’s face on the reels of this online slot machine, but you will come across a pack of other jokers. Literally, the game features a typical joker playing card to act as the wild symbol as well as a king, queen and jack, all of which are designed to represent the traditional card design. Other icons on the reels include a heart, diamond, club and spade. All in all, the slot does a decent job in emulating its game show theme with a little bit of glamour and glitz. However, like the actual Play Your Cards Right TV show, the slot does feel a little bit dates with its simple appearance.

Spins Mean Prizes

This slot machine has a medium volatility level, meaning that punters won’t necessarily find a winner with every spin. The size of the prizes in the paytable aren’t particularly exhilarating either, with a top line bet multiplier prize worth 400x for five king icons on a payline. The good thing is, however, that the maximum possible bet per line is 50 credits, making for a top line bet prize jackpot of 20,000 credits.

Fortunately, the slot machine does offer some bigger prizes in the base game, much bigger in fact. That is because there is a scatter card – depicted with the words “Grand Final” – that pays a total bet multiplier worth 1,000x. So, if you were the wager the maximum total bet of 750 credits, you could feasibly end up with a 750,000 coin jackpot. The smallest possible total bet in the game is a very reasonable 0.75 coins.

Higher or Lower?

There are two chances to boost your prize-money with a bonus in the Play Your Cards Right slot machine and, naturally, they both aim to emulate the simple high-low gameplay of the original game show. The “Double Chance Bonus” is triggered when three or more “Double Chance” cards align on a payline to reveal two rows of cards for players to guess their way through with the prize on each row corresponding with the red and blue cashpots that are filled during the base game.

The “Grand Final Bonus” is triggered whenever three or more “Grand Final” scatters appear in any position with three rows of cards. Ultimately, the further you get in the bonus game, the bigger the bonus winning potential will be with the third row offering 10x total bet prizes for a correct guess.

Games About Games

The Freemantle software studio is no stranger to making a slot machine that is based on a classic British game show. Other titles from the company include Hole in the Wall, Take Me Out Date Night and Family Fortunes, giving spinners the chance to take part in some cracking entertainment with real money prizes. There are some other online slots with a quiz show element about them, such as Deal or No Deal, The Million Pound Drop and Catchphrase, all of which were released by Endemol Games.

Worth a Spin?

Play Your Cards Right may be a thing of television history but that doesn’t mean that you still can’t reminisce about the classic card game action with with Freemantle slot machine (to be fair, you can probably also find re-runs of the show on some obscure cable TV channel!). The medium volatility slot machine offers one heck of a jackpot worth 750,000 coins and a good spread of bonus games that pay homage to the game shows original gameplay.
