What is it with pandas and good fortune? If games developers are to be believed, the two are inexorably linked, especially when it comes to video slots. GameArt aren’t the first developer to explore this concept and they certainly won’t be the last in Fortune Panda, a 5-reel romp that’s rich in gold coins, lucky bamboo and of course pandas.

For reasons that no one can quite fathom, GameArt are prone to setting their coin values extremely low. If you’re the sort of player who likes to lay it all on the line, this slot isn’t for you; conservative players however might find this simple game to their tastes.

Keep Your Panda Eyes on the Prize

Oriental themed slots, among which Fortune Panda certainly numbers, are a common occurrence; every year developers release a slew of new titles, most of which are indistinguishable from previous offerings. Fortune Panda isn’t going to win any awards for innovation, put it that way, utilising a tried and tested formula that springs few surprises.

The reels are encased in bamboo sticks while the game’s logo is rendered in panda coloured spots. There’s also a water theme to the slot, which includes water lilies and an aqua blue background accompanied by symbols such as a frog sat on a lily. Fortune Panda has 50 paylines but a maximum bet that can only range between 0.10 and 5.00, which will instantly deter some players.

Chinese Water Torture

Chinese water torture was an ancient means of driving an individual insane by slowly dripping water onto their forehead. Playing Fortune Panda can be considered a modern form of Chinese water torture as you spin the reels and not a whole lot happens. There’s precious little by way of sound effects and there’s little by means of visual stimuli. Animations in particular are in short supply.

In the base game, with the maximum bet selected, the bulk of the symbols are worth no more than 7.50 or 10 for five in a line. The playing card value are worth even less. More lucrative is the gold coin atop a piece of bamboo which is worth 100 for five. The panda is the wild symbol, substituting for all of the symbols except for scatter and appearing only on reels 2-5. Scatter is a yin-yang symbol which will appear on the first 3 reels only.

Scatter will award 10 free spins when three symbols land on the reels simultaneously. When you’re collecting your spins, if the wild appears it will stay locked in place until all free spins have been collected. Any time you notch up a win in the base game, you can attempt to double up by activating the gamble feature. This is a simple card bet where you need to guess whether its colour will be red or black. You can gamble up to 5 times in a row if you’re feeling bold.

Big Panda

It’s unlikely that you’ll enjoy Fortune Panda so much that you’d go out of your way to source a similar slot. The game’s simply not good enough and not lucrative enough for that. There’s no reason why you might not want to play a similarly themed game however, preferably one that allows you to wager more on each spin of the reels.

Gamesys’ Big Panda is probably the best of the bunch. It’s a medium variance slot with 20 paylines and distinctly sharper graphics. As mentioned at the outset, games of this kind are in plentiful supply; alternative panda games include Spinomenal’s Master Panda as well as Panda King and Panda & Dragoness. And that’s not even touching on the countless Oriental water-themed slots that are doing the rounds at online casinos.

Nothing Special

Fortune Panda is a run of the mill slot that has little to recommend about it. Some of the symbols are nice to look at and the wild and scatter function just as you’d expect them to. That’s really about it in terms of positives though. The small maximum line bet, uninspiring theme and nondescript playing card symbols ensure that this slot is one for the completists only. Play this slot if you must, but don’t expect anything special.
