Seeing is Believing
Unicorns are real. If you’ve yet to see one, that’s simply because you haven’t tried believing. Seeing truly is believing in Magic Unicorn, as the world’s favourite magical equine prances, whinneys and engages in all the other mannerisms you’d expect of such a beast, fictional or otherwise. GameArt have opted to keep things kitsch with Magic Unicorn, which in fairness is the only way to approach this theme.
A winged and golden-horned unicorn flits above the reels, silhouetted against an oversized moon. Pink cherry blossom and a castle in the distance add a requisite touch of magic. On the reels, meanwhile, playing card symbols are complemented by charming magical icons and a blonde-haired beauty who will set your heart racing, if you’re the sort to be swayed by such comeliness.
It’s a Kind of Magic
Magic Unicorn is a 5-reel slot with 243 ways to win. GameArt normally just specify their slots as having 20 or 25 paylines, but they’ve pushed the boat out a little here. The same can’t be said of the line bet however which accords to their usual tried and tested formula of 0.01 to 0.5 per spin. The maximum you can bet per spin here is 25.00, which essentially makes Magic Unicorn a 50-payline slot. Autoplay can be set between 10 and 500 spins and there’s also an option to disable the gamble feature.
GameArt never tend to bother themselves with customising their playing card symbols to fit the theme, but it’s not a deal-breaker. They’ll do, and besides, things get more interesting at least with the proprietary symbols, and not just because they look gorgeous. Although their slots will never be the most fashionable, GameArt have got some real talent when it comes to graphic design.
Sparkles and Spins
It’s hard to decide what’s the more alluring symbol, the blonde-haired beauty or the iridescent butterfly whose colours are simply stunning. You could gaze admiringly at the creature for days, were it not for the fact that there’s a game to be played and money to be made. Other magical symbols include a fountain and a fairy-tale castle which is worth 1,000 for five. Any time you record a win, activate the gamble feature and see if you can double your winnings.
All it takes is a card gamble – black or red – to dictate your fate. The unicorn is the wild symbol, prone to appearing on reels two and four and substituting for other symbols. The bonus symbol is a crystal moon which will trigger 10, 15 or 20 free spins accompanied by a 3x multiplier.
Fairy Magic is a 15-payline slot from Playtech which is on a similar tip to Magic Unicorn. It’s got free spin multipliers, but there are only five free spins to be won at a time. Graphically, it’s not quite on a par with the lushness of Magic Unicorn either. There are plenty of other unicorn games out there in the wild, such as Rival’s Silver Unicorn, a 20 payline slot with a 3x multiplier to accompany free spins.
It’s a Stunner
Magic Unicorn is a lovely slot to look at, despite its blatant kitschness. The symbols are stunning, the butterfly especially, and the blond haired elfin princess isn’t so bad either. Allow yourself to be swept up in the game’s sparkle-kissed magic and you’ll find a slot that, while not offering anything new in terms of features, is a nevertheless rewarding ride.
