Out of This World
In case you’re one of those disgruntled few muttering away about the cold, we’ve got your back with the planetary adventure that is Big Bang. Not only is this not a Gamesys title (it’s in fact a NetEnt one), but it’s also of a different theme. You’ll get to shoot off into space rather than starve and freeze to death alongside a frozen hearted queen.
That being said, don’t forget that space is hardly the most forgiving of environments either… though fortunately for you it seems to be better than the one given here, for there’s a 96% RTP rather than 95.06%. Sadly though, you do get a higher difficulty alongside a more barren looking paytable, which is surprising as Queen of Winter Wins is quite barren as it is. Ah well, exploration isn’t all rainbows and unicorns; if you want that kind of thing, you need to play Leprechaun Tales from Genesis.
Block of Ice
Whole reels can become frozen into place at a time, leading to the queen raining down jagged icicles onto the matrix. For that to happen though, you need a lot of elements to come together in your favour, such as making a winning combination. You don’t need the win to be big, a simple victory of three 9 icons will suffice; once achieved, the symbols will freeze up and then the remainder of the grid will spin again.
If you carry on this streak of fortune – also known as the Winning Streak – it’ll lead to the possibility of stacked icons. When that happens, you’ll see the ice come on down and one of the three tiles will become wild. Get enough of these in a row and your wins could be royal in size. The whole feature sounds impossible to trigger, but we managed it early on, which goes to show that anything can happen, regardless of the volatility stated in reviews.
In regards to the rules of the game, and how to play, it couldn’t be simpler. There’s no autoplays to faff about with or maximum bet toggles, in fact there doesn’t seem to be much of anything in terms of settings. Players merely select the wager they want, between 0.25 and 200 credits, and then watch as the bet button automatically spins the reels. Should you not be changing your wager anytime soon, you can repeat the process via the REPEAT BET option.
As much as we welcome a simplistic control panel, we don’t favour ones that are so outside of the box that they become cumbersome. Yes, a lot of the fat has been trimmed away from the controls, but Gamesys have done so by changing up the appearance of the settings we’ve come to expect, and so they diminish what simplicity they introduced. It’s one of our greatest bugbears of their slot machines.
Keep on Winning
Gamesys have successfully created a slot machine that has little presence, but just enough to have you willing to spend the credits. Queen of Winter Wins is a 5-reel example of what a lot of brands do these days: lack ambition and settle for just getting by while they focus on larger titles. It’s sad but so true, and so if you want more from your online experience, maybe try a title like Zen Garden, also created by Gamesys.
