Sapphire Sorceress is a real looker. That is to say she’s a real looker – the enchanting sorceress herself. But it’s also fair to note that the whole game looks gorgeous; it’s just that the elfin beauty wielding the charms looks particularly beguiling. This 5-reel slot from Gamesys captures the software developer at their stunning best.

Given that Gamesys have released their share of awful-looking slots over the years, they’ve gone some way towards redeeming themselves with Sapphire Sorceress. Everything about this game is stunning, including a fantasy backdrop that perfectly sets the scene for the action that will unfold on the reels.

Final Fantasy

The soundtrack to the game features a haunting violin score which is a pleasant surprise, but one that’s in keeping with the theme. The reels are relatively small, and while this allows the epic backdrop to shine through, it does mean that play the game itself feels a little cramped, with space at a premium.

Sapphire Sorceress is a 25-payline slot with a maximum line bet of 8. This works out of course at 200 per spin. A series of quick bet buttons lie across the bottom. Simply click on one and you can get going in an instant. There are no spinning reels in this game; instead when you push a bet button the symbols disappear and are instantly replaced by new ones.

You Love, You Lose

There’s a lot to love about Sapphire Sorceress. Aside from the stunning graphics, a lot of detail has been put into every element of the game, the playing symbols especially. Due to the design of the game, there’s no autospin or individual controls for setting the coin size. Clicking on the specific bet buttons are your only option.

The paytable features a few playing card symbols, styled to look mediaeval, followed by a spellbook, an owl, a wizard and the sorceress herself who is worth 500 for five. Wild appears as a bubbling spell cauldron and substitutes for all other symbols except scatter. Scatter is some kind of blue emerald and when you land five anywhere on the reels you will be awarded 25x your stake or 10x for four scatter symbols and a 2x multiplier for three.

Can You Spell Success?

The primary feature in this game is Raining Reels. When this happens after matching winning symbols on a payline, these will disappear and new ones will appear to fill in the gaps and give you a chance of winning all over again. Every time you press the bet button or hit Repeat Bet, new symbols will cascade onto the reals. The greater the chain reaction you manage to trigger, the greater your reward.

Anything Similar?

If you’d like to play a slot similar to the gorgeous Sapphire Sorceress, which has an RTP of 95.9%, there are a few enticing options out there. The closest game in terms of features is predictably another one by Gamesys, Fun On The Seafront, whose betting operates in the same way, with symbols cascading onto the reels rather than spinning.

There is also Frog Grog by Thunderkick which operates in a similar dropping style. If you would like to try a game with the same theme, one option is Spin Sorceress. This is a NextGen slot with magical symbols. It looks pretty good, albeit not quite as impressive as Sapphire Sorceress.

Little Gem

Sapphire Sorceress is a neat little game, one that you could happily spend some serious time with. The detail applied to the graphics and backdrop is particularly impressive and makes this slot stand out from the others that Gamesys have put their name to. It’s a shame that the reels aren’t larger, but this complaint aside, there is very little wrong with Sapphire Sorceress.

There’s a real magical quality about this game which can lure you in and see you happily pushing buttons as you immerse yourself in the fantasy realm it conjures. Once you’ve succumbed to the enchantress’s charms, extracting yourself and returning to the real world is harder than it sounds.
