It may not seem like it, but Lightning Box Games are actually one of the more experienced names within the world of online slots these days. Launching over a decade ago, the Sydney based game developer is going to great lengths to put Australia on the map when it comes to web-based casino play.

What is making Lightning Box Games such a viable name is the fact that the brand’s slot releases are pretty no nonsense, even if they are often blessed with colour. Taking players down to the lake floor, Frogs ‘n Flies is a game that has cartoon focused fun at its core.

Featuring 5 reels, 4 rows, and 1,024 ways to win, it’s not a surprise to see that this game has been able to pique the interest of players. But even with its bright and boisterous graphics, is Frogs ‘n Flies really a game that’s worth playing? The following review should go some way in answering that question!

Amphibian Focused Action

Visually, Frogs ‘n Flies is far from a standout game, as it has very little depth to it. The graphics used are generally flat, with there being a severe lack of zip in any of the animations offered up. That being said, the theme is at least fun, most online slots games of today get bogged down in the “boring” when it comes to such, so the light-hearted lily pad to lily pad nature of Frogs ‘n Flies is great to see.

Looking at what players will find on the reels of this new Lightning Box Games release, the symbols actually differ from the norm slightly. The normal 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A have all been give a pond-esque makeover, while the game’s major symbols are pretty much silly through and through. The scatter takes the form of a square symbol, while the fantastic frog is the game’s wild. Combine all this with the fish, the turtle, and the lily pad, and you can see why this game has the fun factor.

Jumping Across the Screen

Frog ‘n Flies may have some fairly lacklustre graphics, but its gameplay proves to be something of a hidden gem. The minimum bet here is 0.40 (on a 1x multiplier) and the maximum bet is 20.00 (on a 5x multiplier), but that isn’t the beginning and end of the Frog ‘n Flies gameplay experience.

Medium to low variance on execution, the game allows wins from all over the reels instead of through the usual payline approach, hence the 1,024 ways to win phrase that is spread down the side of each reel.

Reeling in Fly After Fly

Frogs ‘n Flies isn’t a huge platform when it comes to bonuses, but it does have a few nice little extras to offer. For starters, there is the wild symbol that we mentioned earlier, this substitutes for other symbols in the game to help snag you a winning combination.

What would a Lightning Box Games release be without free spins? Keeping the trend alive, the developer dishes them out in droves here, as you can snap up to 20, which means cost free action is certainly part of the equation within Frogs ‘n Flies. Once again, Frogs ‘n Flies hardly delivers an explosion of bonuses, but what’s here does work to keep the game ticking over.

Keeping Your Head Above Water

The controls within Frogs ‘n Flies are a touch hit and miss, as while we liked the initial simplicity through the wager and spin settings, we weren’t quite as keen on the bumbling paytable layout. If Lightning Box Games were to revisit and update this game, this is probably what they need to address, as it does probably need a bit of additional work.

Frogs ‘n Flies certainly isn’t a game that is going to rewrite history as far as online slots gaming is concerned, but that really isn’t the game’s intention. What Frogs ‘n Flies is supposed to be is a game that represents a quick fix option and in that it’s actually a game well worth taking a look at.
