That age might be buried in the distant past, but it’s one you can revisit thanks to Magnet Gaming’s Gold Rush Valley of Riches.

Three Reels of Fun

Gold Rush Valley of Riches is a 3-reel slot that combines attractive graphics with a catchy soundtrack, complete with twanging banjos and the screech of vultures. It’s a lonely business, panning for gold in the back of beyond with only cactus for company and cans of beans for sustenance. It’s a sleepy business too; leave the reels idle for too long and Gold Rush Valley of Riches’s prospector will start to snore. Spin the reels and he’ll jerk back to life, ready to lower the gold pan into the creek once more.

The game takes place on a 3×3 grid, with symbols hovering against the backdrop, which depicts a classic desert scene. The absence of any sort of framework surrounding the reels, save for two rickety posts and a few boards, allows you to focus on the symbols, with zero distractions. With just 3 reels to play with, there’s a danger that the game could swiftly become repetitive. Thankfully, Gold Rush Valley of Riches proves to be anything but on account of its dual progressive jackpots and trifecta of bonus games.

Controls

It’s obligatory for Wild West games to deploy the Wild West typeface; you know, the one that was once applied to Wanted posters in gold mining towns everywhere, if the movies are to be believed. At the top of the screen, that typeface surfaces on two wooden boards. The one on the left displays the value of the first progressive jackpot, which starts at 500. To the right, you’ll see the value of the super jackpot, a figure which starts at 10,000.

Across the bottom of the screen are a familiar looking set of game controls, once again set in wild west font. On the right hand side, the value of each credit is visible, while to the left you can see the number of credits you have remaining. To adjust the credit value, click on the gear wheel icon. This will open a submenu with arrows toggling the level, ranging from 1 to 10. At the lowest setting, 1 spin will cost 0.20, and at the highest setting a single spin is worth 10. There are buttons for max bet and auto spin and a home icon that accesses a menu where you can top up your credits and view the playing guide.

Gameplay

The aim of the game is to match 3 symbols across any of Gold Rush Valley of Riches’s 8 active paylines. These run horizontally, diagonally and vertically and are always active. The value of the playing symbols will vary depending on the bet level, but the lowest value symbol is the baked beans can and the most valuable is the gold bar.

Any time you match 3 symbols on a payline, you’ll be awarded an extra spin of the reels. This free spin is accompanied by a multiplier that will boost any subsequent win. Each time you win a prize, the multiplier will increase. Land 3 Game Flash symbols on a line and you’ll be taken to a feature where 3 prizes and 3 bonus games flash in the digger’s wash pan. Select one and get ready to pocket some cash or enter one of the lucrative bonus games.

Three Bonus Games

There are 3 bonus games to choose from: Gold Digger, Gold Canyon and Gold Fever. The latter comprises 20 free spins and will trigger again if you land 3 Gold Fever symbols in a row while collecting your spins. All 3 of the game’s features can be activated via Game Flash or by landing 3 of the corresponding symbols in a row during normal play. It’s possible to win Jackpot Flash during the Gold Fever game, followed by Super Jackpot Flash, which can repeat.

Of the other bonus games, Gold Digger involves blasting a path through the mountain using dynamite, with 12 spins of the wheel granting sticks of dynamite with which to blow open sections of the mine containing gold. In Gold Canyon, meanwhile, you’re tasked with navigating a passage through the canyon, collecting prizes as you go.

Conclusion

Fun and feature-filled, Gold Rush Valley of Riches is a great little game that should keep you entertained for hours. 3 reels, 3 bonus features and 2 progressive jackpots make for a whole lotta action and a whole lotta glittering gold.
