Each year of the Chinese zodiac has an animal assigned to it, with the fifth being the year of the dragon. The latest of these was in 2012, while the next one will come along in 2024. The Dragon’s Wild Fire slot game from Mazooma incorporates this theme into its gameplay, featuring not only imagery of the creature itself, but Chinese symbols and icons alongside. The product itself is set against a backdrop of Chinese pagodas, and every time you set the reels of spinning, the sound of a gong being bashed is heard. In addition, if you stay inactive on the game for about 15 seconds or so, a dragon will roar and dive across your screen, possibly out of impatience, or possibly just to startle you. In any event, it can become quite frustrating to see after the third or fourth time of appearing.

Exciting Wonders to Behold

This game presents players with a familiar layout of five reels and three rows, which are filled with all relevant imagery relating to its theme. Therefore, you’ll be able to spin your way through symbols of Chinese words, red and gold pendants, a very fierce looking dragon, and another icon of a flame-kissed phoenix. The icons of A, K, Q, J and 10 also exist in the game, having been made over to give a more Eastern flavour to them. The picture symbols are nicely animated when incorporated into a winning combination, making them more visually appealing as the game goes on.

You’ll also be pleased to see that there are a total of 20 pay lines included, although these are fixed as they are, meaning that you aren’t able to make them fewer. Instead, gamers can change around the amount of the bet that they place to suit their needs. This starts off from its minimum of one coin and can be increased to its maximum of 500 coins per line. Should you do this, you’ll end up placing an overall total wager of 10,000 coins per spin.

Flaming Hot Specialities

A wild icon has been added to the game, and this will act as a substitute for all other symbols on the reels in order to make a winning combination. The only exception to this rule is the bonus symbol. Not only that, but if you’re able to spin five wilds on a winning pay line during the base game, you’ll receive a payout of up to 250,000 coins, depending upon the bet you place.

And speaking of the bonus icon, this is represented by the yin and yang. This is also a scatter symbol, and should three or more of these appear in view anywhere on reels one, three and five, you’ll receive seven freespins. This round will also see the activation of ‘Stepping Wilds’. This means that before each of your freespins begins, you need to select either left, right, up or down. When the reels come to a halt, any wild icons in view will step all the way to the edge of the reels in the direction you have chosen, replacing symbols with extra wilds.

Not only that, but there’s a ‘Flaming Re-Spin Bonus’ round incorporated as well. A stacked dragon symbol which covers an entire reel will activate this. The round will see any dragon and any wild symbols in view lock into place, while the remaining reels re-spin at no extra cost. If the re-spin brings more wilds or dragon symbols to the screen, they lock in place as well, and another re-spin is triggered. This continues until no further symbols are added, with the total win being paid for the resulting reels.

Is it the Year of Your Dragon?

Playing this game does present you with a screen full of high quality graphics and game play, for sure. It’s also had some relevant music integrated into it, and everything flows very well, which makes a change for Mazooma to offer such a product. It looks and feels modern, and has an interesting theme to work with. The special features are very nicely included and there’s really nothing so negative to say about the product – except for the appearance of the dragon that flies across your screen at inactive moments.
