Bingo and slots are normally separate disciplines but now Mazooma – no sticklers for tradition – have put paid to that with Eyes Down, a hybrid slot that combines elements of both. This is the future we chose: what a time to be alive.

Bingo’s the theme but slots are the game in Eyes Down, a 5-reel number where there’s a lot going on. That’s to be expected from Mazooma – this is the same company who released Crazy Slots after all, fusing 4 separate slots into 1 – so it should come as no surprise that this is their handiwork. Never mind the curious bingo-slots fusion; you should be far more concerned with that ominous countdown timer in the top of the screen. What happens when it reaches zero – will a bomb detonate? Will it spell the end of the world as we know it?

Nope, it’ll simply herald the arrival of the bonus feature, but if you haven’t notched up any bingo balls in your accumulator, you’ll be notified that you’re ineligible for feature play. Better start rolling those reels then to see how many balls you can acquire in the 4 minutes before the countdown timer reaches zero. While you do so, a shimmery soundtrack will accompany every twirl of the reels. It’s not the most sophisticated of audio tracks, but given that bingo isn’t the most sophisticated of games, it’s the perfect match.

20 Paylines

Eyes Down features 20 paylines, but there’s no obligation to have them all active at once; play with just the 1 if you like. You won’t win much but at least your money will go far. The stake per line can be set between 0.01 and 25, resulting in a maximum bet per spin of 500. In addition to the spin button which sits centrally, flashing invitingly as if to urge you to resume play, there’s a smaller autospin button to the right. Use the plus and minus symbols to adjust the number of autospins, which can be set as high as 50.

Next to autospin is an orange button that links to the paytable. Above the reels, meanwhile, are two displays of note: the one to the left that counts down to the next bingo bonus and a bingo ball to the right that displays the number of balls you’ve collected. You’ll need at least 1 to activate the bonus feature.

In the base game, anywhere from 3 of a kind upwards is enough to generate a win, except for wild, where two symbols will suffice. Wild appears as a blue star and will substitute for any of the regular playing symbols, applying a 2x multiplier in the process. After the usual playing card symbols, the bingo card is the next most valuable, beaten only by the bingo marker. With the maximum bet enabled, 5 bingo markers are worth a cool 25,000. That said, 5 wilds are worth an even cooler 250,000.

Bingo Features

Bingo is the feature that’s built in to Eyes Down and it’s one that will be activated every 4 minutes provided you’ve collected 1 or more bingo balls in that time. When the feature is triggered, you’ll be taken through to a conventional bingo game, with the number printed onto the balls you’ve previously collected entered as part of your bingo lines. If those balls are drawn, you’ll win a prize. It’s bewildering for a second to find yourself plucked from a video slot and thrust into a bingo game but it’s also highly entertaining.

The other feature to be found in Eyes Down is the pick a ball feature, which awards free spins accompanied by a bonus win. 3 pick a win symbols will award a 2x multiplier, 4 will award a 10x multiplier and 5 grant a 100x multiplier. It’s possible to win additional free spins during this feature.

Surprise Your Eyes

In Eyes Down, Mazooma have created another unorthodox game that meddles with the conventional slots formula and is all the better for it. From the countdown timer to the bingo game built in as a feature, this game is full of surprises. All video slots should be this fun.
