Greek gods have long been a source of inspiration to slots developers, right up there with pirates and Cleopatra. Odds of the Gods sees Mazooma get progressive in this jackpot slot where divine numbers will pave your path to riches.

Grecian mythology never dies; it just gets repackaged and reborn for the next generation of video slots players. Odds of the Gods isn’t going to win any awards for originality or graphics, but it does have one thing in its favour – it’s made by Mazooma, whose trademark is developing quirky, highly playable slots. The reels, set within a standard 5 x 3 grid, are encased in stone and supported by stout marble pillars. In the background, a flash of gold graces the iconic Greek edifices that delineate the skyline.

The playing controls have been assigned a classic slanted font, as if carved into stone using hammer and chisel. It’s all fairly predictable, but this familiarity is what helps set the scene; new players will instantly have an inkling of what to expect once they roll the reels and get to work. A suitably epic soundtrack hints at the might and majesty of the gods, though it’s let down by the less than divine bleeps that herald wins in the base game.

What’s the Odds?

Odds of the Gods is a 20-payline game, with a stake per spin that can be set between 0.2 and 500. This allows for plenty of scope for playing conservatively or going big in pursuit of the progressive pot, depending on how rich and reckless you’re feeling.

There are controls for audio and graphics quality located inside an options menu above the reels. There’s also an autoplay button which leads to an array of options, from setting the number of spins to specifying a session loss limit or single win limit.

In the base game, Odds of the Gods doesn’t provide a whole lot to look at; stone-hewn playing card symbols dominate proceedings, with nary a god to be scene. When the deities do deign to appear, however, the game will belatedly come to life, with the wild and bonus symbols playing a starring role. Wild will substitute for any of the regular playing symbols save for bonus, which comes in 3 incarnations, one featuring a god, another a goddess and the third a golden shield.

Of the playing card symbols, A and K are the most valuable. With the stake cranked up to the maximum 500, 5 A or K symbols are worth 3,750. More valuable still is the Grecian goddess symbol, worth 6,250 for 5. 5 wilds, as you’d expect, are the most valuable of all, commanding 12,500. The various bonus symbols, AKA scatter, will award a feature whenever you land 3 or more anywhere in view.

Mount Olympus Bonus

Three or more Zeus scatters will be enough to attain the Mount Olympus Bonus. This will see you embark on a quest to reach the home of the gods, clicking on the shield to determine whether you move on or collect the prize highlighted. Reveal a diamond symbol and you’ll scoop the progressive jackpot. Make it to the mountaintop and you’ll be presented with one of 5 golden chests. The prize within may include a diamond, which awards the progressive jackpot, or some other major prize.

The Hermes Bonus, activated via 3 or more Hermes symbols in view, will give you a chance to win up to 500x your total bet. There’s also the Shield Bonus, which when activated will result in a ring of shields being displayed. They’ll spin before slowing to a halt to reveal a prize. Pray that the gods strike the chosen shield with lightning; if they do, the progressive pot is yours.

Are the Gods with You?

Odds of the Gods isn’t the finest slot Mazooma have ever released, but then progressive slots tend to be less adventurous than regular video slots for some reason. Despite a lack of innovative features or graphics, Odds of the Gods proves to have a few tricks up its sleeve once the scatter bonuses kick in.

If the gods are willing that progressive pot shall be yours. If they’re not, help yourself to as much cash as you can and make off with it before you incur their wrath.
