Setting the Atmosphere
Eastern Dragon takes place during the Lunar New Year celebrations in ancient China. As such, expect a lot of action and even more fun to take place.
The background shows the skyline of a Chinese city, with the silhouettes of multiple pagodas showing against a red and yellow sky. The graphics are very simple, but that is quite enough to set up the mood. The reels are framed by two lines of fireworks ready to fly away and explode.
Do not expect any music to disturb your game: Eastern Dragon is a rather quiet game, despite its theme. Simple sound effects will play after each win, but nothing to shout about.
How to Play
Let’s now take a look at the rules of the game, so you are fully prepared to make the best of Eastern Dragon.
The game is quite simple in terms of gameplay, which does not mean that it is not fun to play. You will have five reels and a maximum of 20 paylines to bet on, a standard setup for a video slot game. Eastern Dragon gives you the possibility to choose the amount of your bet (from 0.01 to 2 coins) and the number of paylines you wish to activate; simply use the (+) and (-) buttons located at the bottom of the game screen to do so. You may also use the coloured side tabs that flank the reels to adjust the number of active paylines. The two Max buttons will let you activate all paylines or go all-in with a single click. Once you are ready, hit the Spin button to set the reels into motion. Winning combinations of symbols appearing on an activated payline trigger a corresponding cash prize, paying from left to right.
After a win, you can gamble further by clicking the corresponding button and play a mini game against the computer. Guess correctly the colour of a hidden card to double your wager, and guess its suit to quadruple it.
The game is over when you either decide to quit and leave with your coins, or when you make a mistake and they are taken away from you. So choose wisely!
You may also use the Autoplay feature to let the reels spin for a predetermined number of times, with a constant.
The perfect option is you do not want to be interrupted during your game, and just enjoy watching new coins pile up!
Great Chinese Traditions for the Most Part
Let’s take a closer look at the paytable of Eastern Dragon. Most of the symbols on it are inspired by Chinese culture and the Lunar New Year celebrations.
But first, we find the usual playing card-inspired symbols ranging from number 9 and up to the Ace. Combinations of these low-paying symbols are the most likely to appear on the reels during your game.
The second part of the paytable is both more interesting and more rewarding. It consists of Fireworks, a purple Lotus Flower, a Lantern and a lucky Carp. This auspicious fish pays 3,000 times your initial bet for a five-of-a-kind combination on an activated payline.
There are two more special symbols that you are likely to encounter in Eastern Dragon. They come with some extra features so keep your eyes peeled for them!
The first one of them is the majestic Dragon icon, which acts as the Wild card of the game. The Dragon can indeed replace any of the previously mentioned basic symbols in order to maximize your chances of scoring a winning combination. Moreover, all combinations thusly formed pay double! The Dragon only appears on reels 1 and 5, and when it does so simultaneously a Bonus of 15 Free Spins is triggered, with tripled prizes.
Finally, the pierced Coin symbol is the Scatter of the game, appearing anywhere and triggering (modest) wins regardless of alignment.
A Generous Dragon in an Otherwise Classic Game
Eastern Dragon is a solid slot game, with every classic and predictable features you can think of. The very generous Wild Dragon symbol is what makes it stand out from other similar creations. Still a lot of fun to play!
