A century ago, going on safari meant going out equipped to shoot animals in the African savanna. We live in more enlightened times now, in some respects at least, and as a consequence these majestic beasts are for the most part free to roam the plains without risk of getting shot and turned into a rug or fur coat. In Realistic Games Go Wild on Safari then you can look but you certainly can’t shoot.

Although technically no animals will get hurt in the playing of such a slot, it’s nevertheless frowned upon to encourage the shooting of these graceful creatures, even in a fantasy-based game. (Yet making ultra-realistic war games drenched in blood and gore is perfectly acceptable.) That being said, if you peer closely at the game board there appears to be a leopard print frame surrounding it as well as animal skin that sits behind the reels. Perhaps this slot isn’t so animal friendly after all. In fact, it’s not just one creature whose hide has been stretched out, for there is actually a whole series of them including zebra, tiger and leopard all sewn together to form a multi-coloured patchwork quilt.

Wild and Untamed

Go Wild on Safari is a 20 payline slot with a line bet that can be set from 0.01. The total maximum bet is 30.00 per spin. There’s a jackpot of 2,000x your total bet to be won and a free spins bonus round where up to 3 reels can turn wild. The jeep is the wild symbol in this game and reel 5 is the wild one to look out for. Play your cards right and there are up to 15 free spins to be won from this game.

Speaking of playing cards, playing card symbols feature prominently in this slot. A majority of the primary symbols are made up of playing card values, which haven’t really been styled in keeping with the safari theme it must be said. Elsewhere, however, more creativity has been shown thanks to cartoon-like elephants and monkeys surfacing on the reels.

Animal Antics

Aside from the ubiquitous playing card symbols, look out for giraffes, crocodiles and zebras plus the aforementioned monkey and elephant. The latter is the most valuable symbol, worth 2,000 for 5, twice the value of five giraffes. Crocodile is the lowest value animal symbol. The scatter symbol is the jeep and the animal skin appears as wild, which will pay a jackpot of 40,000x your line bet for 5 on a line. It will also substitute for other symbols except for scatter.

Crowded Safari Genre

The safari genre is a crowded one for slots; most major developers seem to put their name to one at some point. Nektan’s effort is named Big 5 Safari, and it’s graced by some lush graphics that are almost like something out of a painting. The game has 20 paylines and an RTP of 95%. This medium to high variance game has up to 12 free spins to be won.

Another game you might like to try is Blueprint’s Wild Antics. This 20 payline slot dispenses up to 10 free spins accompanied by a multiplier of between 1x and 5x. Other safari-themed slots that also warrant a look include Safari Heat, Safari Dream, Safari Madness and Photo Safari, each of which has its own quirks and creatures.

Going Wild Tonight?

Go Wild on Safari is a slightly better than average slot, one whose cute cartoon creatures are contrasted by an over-reliance on playing card symbols. The slot’s features are generic but functional, while audio and animations are both passable. One of the reasons why this slot doesn’t score more highly is because it can be a tough game for notching up anything more than modest wins.

To get somewhere, you’re either gonna need to trigger free spins or to pray that you can land 5 wilds on a line. Thanks to the size of the jackpot this game’s packing, such an event will send you into seventh heaven, but the rest of the time you’ll be forced to eke out an existence from whatever crumbs you can pick up on the reels.
