Nothing but the Reels
As mentioned before, Money Matrix is a retro slot game with a very pronounced casino style. As it is often the case, the game takes place in a busy casino, with slot machines lined up in the background, running other titles from Realistic Games.
You can select two different views, with either a close-up on the reels or an overview of the entire casino that surrounds you, with the paytable visible at the top of the machine itself.
Money Matrix is filled with minute details that give it a very realistic look, a big plus if you like retro slot games but are not ready to compromise on graphic quality just yet. A great start for the game, but let’s dig deeper to learn more about the gameplay next.
Old-School Casino Fun
As it is the case for the vast majority of retro slot games, Money Matrix has excessively simple rules. Even the game matrix features on 3 reels and 1 payline in the middle. Use the command buttons underneath to choose wager from 0.25 to 150 credits per turn, and spin the reels when you are ready to start gambling. You can use the autoplay game mode in order to allow the game to follow its own course freely, with a constant wager throughout.
High variance means that each spin in Money Matrix is far from guaranteed to trigger a win of any sort. The basic paytable itself contains on red and blue 7s, which can be mixed together, and single, double or triple bar signs, which cannot.
The maximum payout is x30, and each win on the reels can award a random number of nudges, which you can use on individual reels to increase your chance to score a win just a little bit. In our experience, however, pure luck was always the deciding factor here. If you want to really aim for higher wins, you will have to play big and rely on the special features of Money Matrix.
Keep an eye out on the elusive dollar signs. Silver or gold, these 2 special symbols act like scatters and you will need 3 of them to trigger a series of wins on the reels. The reels will start spinning for free and will keep going for as long as you score winning combinations. The gold series is more generous than the silver series, and you can trigger a “win” series when 2 kinds of dollar signs trigger the feature.
Finally, Money Matrix tries to make up for all the fail nudges that you might come across with the super spin bonus. Triggered randomly after an unsuccessful spin, this feature guarantees a cash prize at the next turn.
One Big Challenge Ahead
Money Matrix is a difficult game to win at, given its small reel set and high volatility. We took our time to explore all the features of the game, and if the win series are fun to play they were too few and far between to really turn the game around. Besides, even the most generous payouts of the paytable cannot compare with most other slot games on the market, making Money Matrix a little disappointed on that front as well.
