Merlin Bingo Review

There is, obviously, a touch of magic to everything about this online casino, or rather online bingo, website. Themed on the greatest magician who may or may not have ever lived, hopefully you won’t need any spells to ensure you walk away in pocket, rather than cursed to wander the Earth for all eternity looking for away to recoup those losses.

Merlin was, of course, the magician who served in King Arthur’s court. Historians are still completely stumped as to where this was in the UK exactly, with some earmarking Cornwall as a potential site for the Knights of the Round Table, while we saw one report recently that claimed this was actually more likely to be in Lancashire. We don’t really care, to be honest, and in an age of Google everything for enlightenment, it would be good to not know something for a change.

Magic Merlin

The actually website itself is pretty attractive and has clearly been put together in the last few years. The imagery, text and design is as clean as you could ask for, without overloading the information or busy touches. Just how we like it then. Aside from this, it loads quickly, and leaves you under no illusion as to what you will find on the other end of your members’ sign up form – lots and lots of bingo.

Slightly less clear is what the option on the top menu bar that simply reads ‘Games’ would be referring to. It could literally mean anything, but thankfully as this is a full in-depth review we would say that you’re more than likely to find out if you continue to read. Cutting back to the chase, as it were, Merlin’s gives you a great introduction, which is focussed on the central slider image. Merlin himself is pictured on one of the images that rotates, and he looks like something out of Discworld, the old Terry Pratchet series of novels about a world populated with strange, often mythical, frequently magical beasts. Quite fitting then. Whether or not we’re riding on the back of a giant turtle is another question, of course.

Bingo, Let’s Begin

Obviously we’re all here to play bingo, and so that seems like the logical section-proper to start with. Clicking on bingo gives you immediate reassurances that the people who designed this site know what they are doing. First of all, there are several ball varieties on offer to play with. 90-ball, 80-ball, 75-ball, 50-ball, 30-ball... this is far more than many sites that profess to be ‘bingo experts’ offer you.

The running games are also displayed in a handy table. This details how much money is at stake, what the current winner is on, how long the game still has left to run and other such things. A good, easy-to-read way of not wandering into a bingo room and buying a ticket when there is just two minutes on the clock, and a great way to make sure you’re playing the higher value games if that’s what you are looking for.

Now the Slots

We love slots. And not just a little bit, we love them in the same way someone would love a really nice lamp they picked up from an antique store in Dublin. A proper one of a kind, something that you were lucky to find, and will probably never see anything like again.

With this in mind, Merlin clearly appeals to us massively as it has its own slots section. And it’s not a bad one at all. There is a huge range of slots on offer, certainly more than it makes sense to start listing here, and whilst these are not the most up to date on the market overall, some are obviously very new, and of those that are not that new, the word ‘classic’ comes to mind.

The selection is slightly marred, however, by the fact that there are no 3D, video, or progressive jackpot slots. The first of those two types are really popular amongst younger players these days, so that means we don’t really care about them, however, the progressives are an office favourite- the ability to accumulate jackpots as you play, and finally win a massive amount, is always going to be something you really want to have the option to get involved with really.

More Than slots

When you click on Slots you’ll also notice that there are a number of new menu options that come up which weren’t there before. One of these is the Casino, and although the casino is quite limited, they don’t have many games, the games there play well- certainly better than some of the less up to date slots.

On top of this, you also have scratch games (which are the itchy equivalent of slots in terms of instant gratification), and a whole section dedicated to ‘free bets’. This last variety isn’t going to pay out much, but it will see you win something for nothing, which is better than getting kicked in the face, hard, with an iron boot.

Promotions Aplenty

Merlin has some magic (excuse the pun) deals and offers on and certainly much better ones that many other casino and bingo websites seem to offer. And we should know as we have literally reviewed so many of these our heads are now full of useless information about the inner workings of bingo and casino websites.

Each week you can get cashback on your deposits, there’s also a Jackpot Special every week which sees £500 handed out to those lucky enough to claim the prize. Newbie Bonuses are 500% for the 1st deposit, 350% for the second, and 300% for the third. Not bad at all, by any stretch of the imagination.

There’s also a Welcome Bonus, which basically means you get rewarded for joining. Referring a friend means you get Amazon gift vouchers, which is great if you shop at Amazon, or if you don’t want to simply be rewarded with more ways to spend money on this website. Less great if you know anything about worker’s rights and labour conditions.

Like many sites of this kind, there’s a great loyalty rewards system in place, which basically means you play and get your ranking increased, and as your ranking increases you get more payouts, better value bets and such like. It’s a great, albeit very common, way of keeping people interested in the site itself and ensure they come back for more. We’re not complaining though.

Merlin’s a Magic Site

When all is said and done there isn’t a lot to criticise here, which makes a welcome break from the norm. Overall, Merlin may not have a huge selection of online card games to bet on and some of the slots are pretty dated, but that’s besides the point.

The standard and range of bingo is great, and with so many promotions you’ll clearly not be wanting in terms of added value for money. The design of the website isn’t rewriting any books or inspiring revolutions amongst developers, but is that really what you want from a bingo or casino website? Thought not. In short, then, you could do much worse, so consider this a recommendation.
