Stakes Casino is a well-designed site with some decent features, so it pains us to give it such a negative review. Don’t be fooled by the large lobby – the T&Cs are fishy and the overall features aren’t exactly noteworthy. With so many great casinos around, we recommend that you put your money elsewhere.
This kind of judgement isn’t really something we take lightly. We wanted to like Stakes Casino, but unfortunately, there was far too much fluff and fodder for us to make it a recommendable site, at least in our books.
It’s a shame because this is a casino with some aspects that could potentially have been redeeming features. The weekly promotions are decent, the mobile optimisation really works, and the lobby is comprehensive, with over 800 games. There’s one caveat though – we’ve heard more than a few complaints about Stakes, and our personal conclusion is also that it’s somewhat dodgy. And until Stakes changes a few things, then ‘dodgy’ is just how we’d describe it.

A Lackluster Welcome Package
Some of the weekly promotions at Stakes Casino seem pretty fun, such as the Tuesday Surprise which gives players something mysterious to look forward to every week – pretty exciting stuff. However, the welcome bonus itself is just not the kind of bonus we’d be excited about if we were signing up with Stakes.
That’s not to say we think that big bonuses are the be all and end all of casino welcome packages. But the total amount you get by maxing out all three deposits in this package is less than what you’d get at many other casinos for a single bonus. It’s just not really all that worth it.
The Fine-Print Is Not So Fine
All new players should take the time to read the T&Cs of any new casino they sign up with, and there are plenty of reasons for that. They might find they’re not comfortable with the wagering requirements or cash-out process, to give a couple of examples. In other words, they might find the casino is just not for them – and that’s normal stuff.
That’s not the case here. A couple of the T&Cs at Stakes are a little bit weird. There’s one specific term that states that Stakes reserves the right to not process a payment. With some qualifying information that would have been fine, but as if we’re left to believe that Stakes can simply handle payments as it pleases, and that’s just not good. We even asked a customer support agent about this to verify that we weren’t misreading the term.
In fact, it’s the terms regarding payment that are the sourest. There’s another term that states that large wins exceeding €10,000 will be split up over multiple payments up to €5000 per month. Unfortunately, that puts you in a really compromising position if you hit a big win.
What if, on the other hand, you’ve made a deposit but decide the casino is not for you without playing anything? You’ll just withdraw your cash back – easy, right? Not at Stakes you won’t. The terms state you need to play your deposit once before you can withdraw it back.
Loyalty Statuses And Rewards
From the moment you start playing slots at Stakes Casino, the customer support team will be assessing whether you deserve to be awarded one of their Loyalty Statuses. These statuses look well worth having too, with dedicated account managers, extra bonuses, cashback and gifts amongst the extra perks and rewards you can receive.
A Packed Lobby
This is inarguably the best part about Stakes Casino and is where they get a few points back. The range of software providers is quite impressive, with about 20 different names present in the lobby that overall amounts to hundreds upon hundreds of games. The new games are nicely placed at the top of the list and emblazoned with “New” banners, whilst every single game is also labelled with the software company who created it.
Lots of people might find such a wild selection thrilling, and we can’t fault them for it. Newer players might find such a wide selection over-whelming, though that’s just us nit-picking. If you’re a player who likes a wide range of slot games, table games and live casino, you could really have it all here. The same goes for players who are into progressive jackpots such as Mega Moolah, Mega Moolah Isis and 5-Reel Drive that offer massive jackpots, as well as smaller jackpots like Basic Instinct, Rambo and The Slotfather.
It’s almost a pity that the lobby is so well-thought out, because we’re just not comfortable depositing money at this casino – we just don’t trust the payment terms enough. The good news is that if big lobbies are what you seek, we can help you find them elsewhere.
Given what we’ve already mentioned about Stakes Casino, we’d have been surprised if customer support was that good, although it operates 24/7. We didn’t want to just assume, though (you know what they say about assumptions), so we tested it out first-hand.
We found live chat response to be quite slow, and the people serving us weren’t the friendliest lot either. For one of the questions we asked, which was to clarify one of the terms we mention above, we got no reply at all other than ‘all terms are valid’. Strange stuff.
Not Worth Signing Up
Stakes has the makings of a decent online casino, especially with that lobby, but the terms we’ve mentioned are dodgy enough that we can’t justify a sign-up.
What Stakes Casino does well, plenty of other casinos do better, so you’re not missing out by not signing up here. Check out our personal recommendations to find out where you should really be putting your stakes.
