The creative minds over at Spinomenal have come up with a rather interesting theme for one of their latest real cash slots, to say the least, and that’s goats. Not just any goats though, but really large ones. Very Big Goats delivers pretty much what it says, albeit it in a questionable set of aesthetics.

Seeing as the brand has only been around since 2014, they’ve managed to make a name for themselves as being some of the most innovative, and quirky, developers out there. And with a 5-reel slot such as this one, it’s not hard to understand why. If you were to look for something of a similar theme elsewhere, you’d really struggle to find one.

The thing is, is having an unusual design style enough to capture the imaginations of gamers, or do you need more? Promising to be a medium variance slot, with reasonable volatility, Very Big Goats has a lot of claims for such a young title still in its infancy.

Wolf in… Goat’s Clothing

Most of us know the tales of the three little piggies and the wolf who tried to blow their houses down; there’s variations of it throughout many cultures. Well, Very Big Goats takes this idea and mixes up the dynamics slightly to give us a wolf vs goat type of scenario, whereby the wolf is trying to eat the poor goats. It sounds awful, but thankfully the imagery used is cheery and playful, allowing for a tense subject to be delivered humorously to its users.

Spinomenal have managed this by making the graphics of an illustrative quality, their edges sketchy and raw. This looks like it could have been created by children, such is the crudeness of the artwork. One issue we take with this though, is that the animals don’t necessarily look how they’re supposed to: the wolf looks more like a feral cat, and the goats like people in onesies, with only their hooves telling you otherwise.

What Time Is It, Mr Wolf?

The main attraction of this slot machine is its free spins, which may sound like the title is doomed to fail – it offers little in the way of diversity, if all that you get is extra games. Well, think again. You may be getting free games, but should you land the right combination, you’ll also activate the bonus round, an exclusive board game level where you test out your wits against the wolf’s.

To trigger any one of the free games, and the bonus feature, you’ll need to get a full first reel of the wolf icon and then a full goat symbol on the fifth reel, sandwiched between the jaws of its predator. Each goat delivers something different to the experience:

  • Baby Goat: If you land this symbol, you’ll only be gifted five spins on the house, during which time expanding reels will move one space to the right.
  • Grandpa Goat: Seeing as he’s a senior, you’ll now be rewarded 10 spins, as well as a respin whenever you make a winning combo.
  • Boy Goat: This will generate the same number of rounds as Grandpa Goat, only now you’ll get between one and four wilds on the grid, whenever you make a spin.
  • Girl Goat: Last but not least, you have the bonus; get this and you’ll be taken to a board game. The aim is to keep landing on the multiplier tiles, for if you fail or the wolf eats you, it’s game over.

Same Taste, Different Meal

If you’ve enjoyed playing this whimsical yet contemporary take on a classic children’s story, you’re in look, as there’s plenty of other slot machines out there that deliver similar features.

True, you won’t get the same theme, but you’ll be able to experience expanding wilds and bonus rounds, like when you play Titan Thunder from Quickspin. This game has a completely different aesthetic, but the mechanics and the features you’ll receive mimic that of Very Big Goats. What this means is that you can get the same great playthrough, but with a different twist.

I like Big Goats and I Cannot Lie

Very Big Goats is a slot machine that has a BIG personality, delivering just enough features to keep us coming back for more, but not enough that we never look elsewhere for entertainment. As far as uniqueness goes, visually speaking this game will be hard to beat, but substance wise, there’s hundreds of slots that fit the bill.
