Online casino software providers are always looking for the latest trends in the iGaming world. The entire goal is to stay one step ahead of the competition, figuring out what types of games and platforms will be making waves in the years to come, and beating other developers to the punch.
One of the biggest growth areas of the future for online gambling companies is sure to be Asian markets, and that’s exactly where Toptrend Gaming has set their focus. Based out of the Philippines and founded in 2010, the group is constantly putting out new slots and other games that are designed to appeal to players in China, Vietnam, Korea, and other nations in the region. Throw in a platform that can accommodate games from many other software providers, and you have a company that is built for success in these markets.
A Fast Growing Casino Collection
Toptrend Gaming has developed a library of products that is diverse enough to populate an entire casino on its own. It’s not the strongest collection in all areas, but there’s at least a little something for everyone, making this an excellent place for a new operator to start building a site that can attract casual and serious gamblers alike.
The strongest area of their portfolio comes in the slot machine collection, where there are more than 90 titles for players to choose from. These games are organized by the number of paylines each one features, and there is tremendous variety in this regard: there are everything from single-line games to machines that feature 1,024 ways to win, with everything in between also being well-represented.
There’s just as much variety when it comes to themes and styles. While you’ll fun into some games that seem highly derivative of other properties or titles, there’s also plenty of originality on display. We especially like that the games use a diverse range of graphical and presentation styles, meaning that you won’t find yourself staring at game after game that you don’t like. If the first one you try doesn’t appeal to you, don’t worry: there will be plenty of other options that are completely different from what you’ve tried so far.
Let’s take a look at a few very different titles to get a sense of what’s out there. First, there’s Five Pirates, a 1,024 Ways machine that uses (of course) a pirating theme complete with swashbuckling sailors and heaps of treasure. A jaunty pirate tune plays throughout the game, and the entire machine is set on the bow of a ship, sailing out on the open sea.
The gameplay takes place on an expanded five-by-four set of reels, and since any left-to-right combination can win, that allows for 1,024 “paylines” to exist each time you play. Players can start earning prizes by matching the classic card ranks, starting with nines and working all the way up to aces. Cannons, maps, parrots, monkeys and ships earn progressively larger rewards.
In addition to wilds, there’s also a pirate flag that acts like a scatter. Hit two or more, and you’ll trigger a hold and spin feature in which the remaining reels that do not have scatters will spin again. If you can eventually lock in all five, you’ll reach the Barrels Bonus, where players can choose from between several free spins games – up to 15 free plays, or fewer spins, with a multiplier of up to 15x.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Jumping for Gold, a three-reel, single-payline slot machine with a light equestrian theme. Like many “classic” titles of this type, it is designed to look like an old-fashioned mechanical slot machine that you can find at many brick-and-mortar resorts to this day.
The object here is as simple as it can get: try to match three of the same or similar symbols across the pay line, and get a prize in return. There are gold, silver, and bronze bars, as well as medals that pay out at higher amounts. Many combinations can lead to earning cash, including gold/silver/bronze pairings, though three-of-a-kind is the best way to score big wins. The most important symbol is the golden horse, which acts as a wild, comes with a 2x multiplier (which can grow to 4x if two horses show up), and three of them can award the game’s largest payouts.
Of course, most of the slots in this library fall somewhere between these two extremes. One example is Action Heroes, a machine that features characters who have more than a passing resemblance to some of your favorite Marvel superheroes – in particular, Iron Man. This is one of many games that are obviously similar to existing games from other developers; this isn’t something we love to see, but at least these titles do have some originality that sets them apart from the initial games.
In this case, the game is a five-reel, 40-line machine with a bold red and yellow color scheme. Players match tens through aces along with a few different heroes and some not-so-subtle references to others (like Thor’s hammer, a Hulk fist, or Captain America’s shield). Along with a 2x multiplier wild symbol, the Action Heroes logo acts as a scatter; hit three or more, and you’ll get 8 free spins that come with expanding super wilds.
Tere are many other games worthy of note in this portfolio, but we only have time to highlight a handful of them. A few of the other slots we really enjoyed include:
- The Journey West
- Dolphin Gold
- Draco’s Fire
- The Silk Road
- Dragon Palace
- Lucky Panda
- Tiger Slayer
- Eight Immortals
One of the things we particularly like about the Toptrend Software is the fact that it offers up more than just slots. There is a small selection of table games that cover all the important titles you’d expect to find at a good casino, including at least a couple different side game variants on blackjack. The options that we saw were:
- Three Card Poker
- Caribbean Stud Poker
- American Roulette
- European Roulette
Additionally, there is also a small video poker selection. Only four games are represented: Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, All American and Joker Poker. These are pretty basic implementations of these games, with only singlehanded play available.
Little Information Provided
In some ways, the Toptrend Gaming website is a treasure trove of information for players: you can try out their entire collection of games, which is the perfect way for learn whether or not you’ll enjoy trying these titles for real money. On the other hand, you won’t find much else on the site. In fact, you’ll find nothing else on the site: there isn’t a single sentence or an “about” page that would provide some basic information on the company.
That’s why we only have the most basic info available about the company itself, such as the fact that it happens to be headquartered in the Philippines. That said, this isn’t one of those studios that have made a concerted effort to stay out of the public eye. In fact, Toptrend has made appearances at some of the biggest trade shows in the world, including the G2E Gaming Expo in Macau in 2016. They may not exactly be an award-winning group just yet, but it’s nice to know that they are putting themselves out in front of industry insiders.
Plenty of Entertainment in Some Underserved Markets
There are plenty of operators out there that have larger and perhaps objectively better casino collections than Toptrend. However, few of these companies have made efforts to specifically target countries in Asia, and that’s where this company is likely to shine. While there are a handful of major developers that put these markets first, it is a region that could use more diversity and competition in terms of the software platforms that are being offered, and this is another viable and strong option for operators who are launching sites in this part of the world. And since they can create custom games or integrate content from other developers, this makes a great package on which to build a casino.
From the perspective of players, we have to say that we were most impressed by the slots collection. Many of the games here are well above average by current industry standards, and with a wide variety of themes and play styles, chances are that most users would be more than satisfied by this portfolio, finding plenty of games that appeal to them. The table games and video poker areas are a bit sparse, but at least there’s something there, making this a full casino provider rather than just a slots developer. We can’t say that players need to rush out to play these games, but they are definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in a website that offers these titles in your jurisdiction.
