Batman and The Joker are like Tom & Jerry: always capering, always wilin’ and always coming back for more, no matter how battered and bruised they are. Ash Gaming bring the arch enemies together once more in this action-packed 5-reel slot.

He’s a wily one, that Joker. Always up to no good. Why can’t he just leave Batman and the beleaguered people of Gotham City alone once and for all? Because that would be no fun, that’s why. The two figures need the other to justify their own existence. Ash Gaming have released a series of Batman slots, with Batman & The Joker Jewels complemented by games starring Mr Freeze and The Penguin. All of these games are progressive, allowing for major money to be won and lost.

Pop Your Cape on…

The Dark Knight’s patience must be wearing thin with the clown prince of crime by this stage in their long and fractious relationship. Still, what’s a superhero to do other than to strap on his cape and prepare to do battle for righteous justice once more.

There have been many Batmen over the years and Ash Gaming have elected to model their game on the extremely camp Adam West who played the caped crusader in the 60s TV series. A retro aesthetic pervades this slot, from the original Batman logo to the kitsch symbols that appear on the reels.

Take Control

The action takes place within a standard 5×3 grid, with a pink 60s pop art background that, on closer inspection, turns out to be full of teeth. There are more of them on the reels too; symbols that appear as novelty false teeth that appear to be laughing maniacally. Above the reels, the value of the game’s four jackpots is displayed: the Grand, Minor, Major and Mini.

There are all kinds of features and bonuses to be claimed in Batman & The Joker Jewels, with the Bat-tastic Multiplier Meter used to determine the value of the bonus that’s awarded. Look out for the wild Joker symbol appearing on the reels which will award a random wilds bonus. The game features 25 paylines and a coin value that can be set between 0.25 and 2,500. That’s some serious dough – you’ll need deep pockets to play this game at its maximum bet settings. Beneath the reels, you’ll also find a turbo mode option and autoplay, which can be set at between 10 and 99 spins.

Turbo Feel

Spin the reels and they set off at a fair canter – and that’s with turbo mode off. Before they come to a halt, the Spin button will change to Stop, whereupon you can halt the reels early if you’re the impatient type. The expanding multipliers are a nice touch, with each primary character such as The Joker and Robin filling two paylines and boosting your prospects of winning. Any time a winning combo is generated, an animated sequence taken from the 60s TV show is played. It’s a nice touch.

In the base game, five Batman symbols are worth a mere 500, but because wins are multiplied by the line bet, it’s possible to win some major money. Besides, secure five wilds and you’ll be awarded 2,500 – a figure which comes with the potential of a multiplier on top. There are two wilds, both of which will substitute for the regular symbols except for scatter: one of Batman and one of The Joker. Regular symbols that surface in the game include a Bat belt, a car and a pistol shooting a flag that reads “Bang!” That’ll be The Joker again, always up to his tricks.

The Features

Land the bonus symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger Batman vs The Joker free games. At this stage, you’ll be prompted to select one of the two protagonists to add a 5x multiplier to the right or left. You’ll keep receiving free games until the meter lands on “End”. There are also up to nine smile wilds to be awarded if you land The Jester of Jackanapes symbols anywhere on the reels.

Decent Homage

Batman & The Joker Jewels is another incentive slot from Ash Gaming that forms a charming homage to the original 60s series. Camp, kitsch and as crazy as The Joker himself, this game is a whole lot of fun.
