From drag queens to Tumblerinas, everyone seems to be able to relate to The Wizard of Oz in some way. The American musical comedy was released in 1939 and it’s enchanted generations of moviegoers ever since. Now it’s the turn of slots players to succumb to Dorothy’s enduring spell.

There’s No Place like Home

When Ash Gaming are on top of their game, they’re capable of coming up with some ridiculously good slot conversions that retain all the features that made the original concept so great, be it a movie, cartoon or game show. The spirit of Oz is alive and well in this faithful 5-reel conversion whose charming graphics perfectly capture the mood of the original movie.

A rainbow arches over the reels, while in the distance Emerald City beckons. Below, a bucolic vista features a meadow strewn with wildflowers and a string of snow-capped mountain peaks. As for the symbols themselves, they feature all the game’s iconic characters and imagery including those famous slippers, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow, twister, Dorothy and her dog and the Wicked Witch of the West…or is it the East?

You’re a Long Way from Kansas

Winnings of Oz is a 25 payline progressive game with a line bet that can be set between 0.01 and 10, making for a maximum bet of 250.00 per spin. Witch and wizard bonuses provide ample opportunity for advancing to where the winnings lie, but the first feature that will capture your imagination is Yellow Brick Road, which sensibly involves Dorothy advancing along the path to riches, as directed by the bonus wheel. Make it all the way to the end and you’ll receive the Wizard Bonus.

Alternatively, land bonus symbols on reels one and three and a Wizard Bonus scatter on reel five to activate this feature. In execution, the Wizard Bonus obliges you to turn four coins to discover the prizes that are concealed beneath. If the coin reveals a character from the movie, better still, for if you can reveal all four, the coveted progressive jackpot is yours.

Lions, Tigers and Bears

Winnings of Oz really is an endearing game; the way Ash Gaming have managed to integrate the bulk of the main characters is extremely clever. The two witches, Glinda and Theodora, come into play when you activate free spins, achieved by landing three of either witch anywhere on reels 2-5. The aim is to collect as many Glindas as possible, which will be used as wilds once you’ve collected five Theodoras to activate the Super Spin feature.

To win the progressive jackpot, collect the pictures of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and Cowardly Lion in the Wizard Bonus. Alternatively, watch out for “Progressive” appearing en route to Emerald City. Land on it and that baby’s yours.

Oz Slots

In terms of gameplay, the slot that Winnings of Oz most closely resembles is X Factor Jackpot, another progressive slot from Ash Gaming. If you’d like to try something a little further from home however, Battleship Atlantic by Gamesys is another progressive game that’s got a lot to love about it.

For players who are more enamoured with the story than the features necessarily, suffice to say that Winnings of Oz isn’t the only slot out there to feature Dorothy and co. There are at least another three Oz slots doing the rounds: Wizard of Oz, Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers and Wizard of Oz Wicked Riches, the latter released by WMS.

Wizard of Oz

Immersive and inventive, Winnings of Oz is an excellent progressive slot, one that you could happily play for hours. If you’ve seen and loved the movie, you should see and love this faithful slot conversion. The features are creative and playful and visually the game is a thing of beauty. There’s not a whole lot of action to be had in the base game, but if you follow the yellow brick road, you’ll find the bonus games to be paved with gold, cash and all things good.
