Get ready for a spot of boom-boom-pow as you emulate Sonic the Hedgehog and attempt to collect all the gold rings in Boom Gaming’s Booming Gold. That’s a whole lotta booms to shake the room, but that’s just the way this Isle of Man developer rolls. Don’t stop to ask why – roll those reels and feast your eyes on this shimmering, aureate slot.

Think of a thing that can conceivably be gold plated – bikini; teeth; sports car – and it’ll surface in Booming Gold, a game that’s low on subtlety but high on gilt-edged, plated, dipped and clad symbols that will sate your lust for gold.

All That Glitters…

The theme of Booming Gold is a simple one, namely to gold plate all the things. Slots dedicated to conspicuous consumption, be it flashing the cash, the diamonds or rolling in gold, are nothing new. But in Booming Gold, Booming Games have devised a slick game that looks the business. Technically it’s tacky as hell and yet this game doesn’t feel tacky – it’s too classy for that, even if it’s a little odd in places.

Spin the reels and with a sultry saxophone swagger they’ll set off, embarking upon an interminable maiden spin that can mercifully be cut short by hitting the stop symbol on the spin button. Thanks to the darkened background that the reels are superimposed over, similar to that found in the company’s Booming Glow slot, the gold really stands out here, shining with the force of 1,000 suns.

Gold Diggaz in the House

Lest the gold leaf above and below the reels wasn’t enough, just wait till you notch a win with the aid of an expanding wild and an entire reel is filled with a gleaming gold ingot. Talk about maximum over-gold. In terms of playing information, Booming Gold is a 5-reel, 20-payline slot, with the ability to adjust the number of active paylines. You can set the stake up to 3, resulting in a maximum stake of 60 per spin. Autospin is available, with a plethora of settings allowing you to configure exactly how much action should be performed on your behalf before you step in and take over.

It’s hard to miss the Max Bet button, coloured in bright pink below the reels, but you might struggle to make out the soundtrack and SFX buttons above the reels due to the amount of shine applied to them. This game’s so bright you could be forgiven for playing it with sunglasses on. In the base game, three or more symbols will be enough to score a win; symbols of note include a bikini-clad model, sportscar, ring, cork and set of bars, all rendered in gold of course.

Squad Golds

The game’s feature is the expanding wild, which appears on reel four, filling it to make generating wins as easy as pie. In regular play, the non-expanding wild appears as a mouth filled with gold teeth and is worth 750 for five. Scatter appears as a gold necklace with a dollar symbol on it and will trigger free spins with three or more – up to 10 free spins can be claimed in this manner. Booming Gold also gives you the option to gamble your free spins before collecting them. During free spins, three or more scatters will retrigger the feature, further boosting your free spin count.

While visually a feast to look at, Booming Gold’s gameplay is less exciting. In truth, the slot follows the exact same formula as Booming Glow, with wilds and scatters the only means of grabbing some major cash. There’s nothing wrong with that of course – many other slots developers adhere to a similar formula – but this lack of invention in terms of features is the only thing letting this game down. Still, if you’re a fan of this medium variance game, Booming Glow will be right up your street.

Gold and Bold

The goldest game in town is also one of the most fun to play, despite its generic features and bonuses. Gaze in awe at the gold-plated excess of it all as you shade your eyes from the glare of Booming Gold.
