Golden Profits by Booming Games sounds like it could be about many things. In the end it turns out to be an Ancient Greek-themed slot, although only nominally. With so few proprietary symbols, there’s very little about this game that makes its provenance evident. The playing card symbols, which dominate, could be from anywhere, and you’re left with just three themed symbols plus wild and scatter. That seems kinda miserly and suggests that Booming Games pushed this slot out in a hurry.

When the game first loads, there’s an overview of how it all works provided, with a series of lines drawn pointing to key buttons and briefly describing their function. Whether they’re required is debatable, given that slots are pretty easy to get the hang of, but props to this game’s developer for actually making the effort. Click OK when you’re done and then you’ll be able to see clearly for the first time what sort of delights lie in wait when you play the Golden Profits video slot. The short answer is “not a lot”. This is a game which looks drab and uninspiring and that’s putting it mildly.

Garden of Delights

The free Golden Profits slot is set in a rose garden of some sort, one that appears to lie in Ancient Greece, with mountains in the background, a summer dwelling in the distance and bright pink blossom everywhere. The backdrop looks great. It’s the rest of the game which looks completely naff. The symbols are deeply unimpressive. In the case of the playing card symbols, they’re angular and vaguely look like they could have come from Ancient Greek times. They’re passable, but nothing special. The three themed symbols though aren’t good at all. There’s a silver-haired figure who looks like Zeus, a woman who looks like she might be a ruler and a man who also looks like a ruler. The design of each character can best be described as kitsch.

There are some great looking online slots out there but Golden Profits isn’t one of them. And if you’re hoping for a stirring soundtrack or epic graphics, again you’ll need to look elsewhere. This is a game which does the bare minimum to get by. Yeah, it’s playable, but only just. One of the most surprising things about this game is that it has only 5 paylines. It’s extremely rare to encounter a 5-reel game nowadays with any less than 10 or 15 paylines. Golden Profits feels like an anachronism, a relic from the time of classic slots.

A Golden Opportunity

You can adjust the number of active paylines in this game, although your most sensible choice would be to leave it at 5, as any less and it’s going to take all day to record a win. This is a major issue here because Golden Profits has high variance. As a result, you’ll probably need to put in some serious playing time as it is before you manage to trigger free spins or one of the bigger wins at least. Wild will substitute for all other symbols and appears as a lightning bolt. It’s also worth 25,000 if you land 5 on a line with the max bet set. The maximum bet incidentally is worth 25 coins per spin, so 5 per line. FInally, you can activate 10 free spins with a 3x multiplier by landing 3 scatters on the board.

Similar to Exotic Fruit

A mobile-compatible game which works as well on Android and iPhone as it does on desktop, Golden Profits is very similar to Exotic Fruit. That will be because it too is a Booming Games slot, although Exotic Fruit has lower variance. Peony Ladies is the other slot that’s quite similar to Golden Profits. It’s a game which has 15 paylines and is the product of Spinomenal, who are a little-known developer, even more obscure than Booming Games.

It’s Hardly Booming Marvellous

You can play for free, play for real money or even watch in demo mode, but it makes little difference: whatever approach you take, Golden Profits is not going to keep you entertained for any amount of time. Half-baked and assembled in a hurry, it’s a slot with no real character or theme to it. Nor are there any bonus games or other features of note which might liven it up. It’s a shame, because Booming Games are capable of better, but Golden Profits is not their greatest moment to date.
