Ariana will take you on a journey under the sea, offering up oceans of plenty as you go diving for your own buried treasure. It’s a shame that rather than adding a relevant soundtrack, or even just keeping it silent, Microgaming have chosen to add the awful jingling and slightly jarring tones of a noisy casino into the background of this one. It’s way too distracting, so we end up playing with the mute button in effect. However, with that issue placed to one side, you’ll find that the game itself is quite compelling and very nicely designed. The background presents you with the ocean floor, covered by coral reefs and other assorted sea life, and the title of the game relates to the main character, or rather, the only character of the product. She appears to be a mermaid who is waiting for you under the water surface – whether she’s a good thing or not remains to be seen. The graphics and animations in this one are a visual treat to look at as well, bringing it together in a nicely presented game.

Let’s Go Diving!

As far as the interface of this game goes, you’ll be offered the icons on a five reel and three row layout, which means everything about it should be fairly familiar if you’re a regular slots player. On these reels, you’ll find various different thematically relevant symbols relating to underwater life. Therefore, you’ll have symbols of purple-coloured starfish and elaborate seahorses. There’s also a symbol which shows a sunken treasure chest, spilling gold, jewels and silver out of it. And there’s another icon which is Ariana herself up close. These are accompanied by the often appearing icons of A, J, K, Q and 10, although these haven’t particularly been designed in any fashion which really relates to the sea or ocean life.

Amongst the reels and rows, Microgaming have chosen to add a total of 25 separate pay lines, and these are completely fixed in place, meaning that you’re not able to lower them in any way. However, if you enjoy the customisation part of online slots, you do have the chance to change your wager around per spin. This is done with the plus and minus buttons at either side of the ‘Bet’ box. The amount begins from its minimum of $0.25 and increases up to its maximum level of $125, which therefore offers up the maximum overall amount which can be gambled per round.

Underwater Specialities

There are a few different special features of this game, so you can be sure of participating in a wonderful and entertaining product. The first of its additions is its wild symbol, and this is represented by the game’s logo. This will substitute for all other symbols except for the scatter icon, and if you manage to spin five of these on to a winning pay line, you’ll be rewarded with up to $1250.

And speaking of the scatter symbol, this is represented by the previously mentioned starfish. Scatters pay out wherever they show up on the reels, and wins are multiplied by total bet staked, with a maximum potential pay out of $12,500 for five scatters. If you manage to spin three or more of these onto the reels, you’ll also trigger 15 freespins. During this round, the wild icon ends up being stacked on the very first reel, which means you have a much stronger potential to form winning combinations. Freespins can also be re-triggered during this round as well.

As far as the base game is concerned, you’ll also find that the included icons are stacked in general, with a different one being stacked on a different reel. The icon of Ariana is the only one which is in this form across all reels, while the seahorse, treasure chest and underwater coral scene are all stacked on reel one. Furthermore, any full symbol stack on reel one will expand all matching symbols on the remaining reels. Matching symbols will only expand when part of a winning combination.

A Swimmingly Good Game

For those gamers who are particularly keen on Microgaming products, Ariana is definitely not one that you should miss out on. It’s one of their better offerings in terms of both graphics, design and game playability. Not only that, but it has some intriguing special additions, and its only drawback is the included soundtrack. Not everybody wants to listen to the supposed noises of a land-based casino, but fortunately, the mute button is there to solve this issue.
