Let’s head to outer space where strangely there appear to be cherries and bars. Let’s hope the ‘Astronomical’ slot from Microgaming will supply you with some wins that are simply out of this world.

I remember at school being totally baffled by all the mumbo jumbo that our Physics teacher used to come out with. Not that great a surprise then that I didn’t even manage to get a CSE in the subject. Well, astronomy may be a very technical subject but thankfully this slot game isn’t. In fact, it’s extremely straightforward and an ideal game to play if you’re fairly new to playing these great games.

It’s another of the three-reel games that Microgaming produce as a bit of an homage to the games of the past. I can just picture myself playing this in the local amusement arcade all those years ago. This is one of the older slot releases from Microgaming and was launched (not by a rocket) back in 1999. There have obviously been many strides made in slot design since then so this does have a basic look to it. That doesn’t detract from the enjoyment you’ll get playing the game.

Out of this World

If you love retro style slot games, then this really is going to be right up your street. In the background we see a starry night, no sign of spaceships or alien craft on a trip out to Earth for a holiday. With this being just a three-reel game it means there’s a lot more space available, if you pardon the pun.

So Much Space

The actual reels are in the left-hand corner of the screen and don’t take up that much room at all. Not surprising really as there are only three reels and just the single pay-line to try and get some wins on. It’s just the centre reel that gives you the wins you’re hoping for.

When making your choice of stake for the game you can choose to either have one, two or three coins on each spin of the reels. When you do that the paytable on the right hand side of the screen will light up to indicate how much that stake can win you. If you do want to go all-in and plump for three coins on a spin, simply press the Bet Max button to speed things up. Playing the game will cost you between €0.25 and €75, just work out a budget that suits your finances.

Symbols in the game are a mixture of traditional symbols and theme-related ones.  We get a cherry, single, double and triple bar but also the planet symbol and the Astronomical logo.

There are some good wins to be gained from winning combinations and of course the more you stake, the higher amounts are available to be won. The top prize is for three of the Astronomical symbols on that one pay-line. If playing one coin you’ll receive 2000x your stake, 4000x for two coins and if betting max on that occasion you’ll win 8000x your stake. Three planets win either 300x, 600x or 900x. Two cherries can win you a maximum of 3x your stake to keep that account balance of yours ticking over nicely.

Go Wild About Astronomy

We all need a little bit of help getting some wins so it’s good to see that there’s a wild symbol in this game. It’s the Astronomical logo that has been given this duty and it can substitute for all the other symbols in the game to get you some handy wins.

There’s no sign of any scatter, random bonus or free spins game though so if that’s what you are looking for then you are going to be disappointed. That’s just the way games were back in the day, so much more simple.

It’s just a case of working out your stake spinning the reels, crossing your fingers and hope that Lady Luck has a spacesuit on and can bring you some good wins. All rather simple, really and a great game to play if new to slot games.

Final View From the Stars

It’s an enjoyable game to play, rather simple but sometimes in life that’s the best thing. It has some good wins to try and get your hands on and the wild symbol helps you along the way. Definitely worth a play.
