We take a trip back in time in more ways than one in ‘Flying Ace.’ For the theme, we travel to the wartime days when pilots were battling it out in the skies. The hero of the game is a fighter pilot with his big moustache, pilot costume, goggles and a big smile on his face as if he’s just downed another enemy pilot. The game has a patriotic red white and blue look to it. Underneath the reels is the game logo and what looks to be a few holes made by enemy fire hopefully everyone got home safely.
It’s not just the subject of the game that takes us back in time. This is another of the Microgaming slot games that hark back to the days when three-reel games were the order of the day. All fairly simple games compared to the more complicated five-reel games that we are all so used to playing these days. This game doesn’t have any bonus games and the only nod to the current day is the inclusion of a wild symbol, it’s still an entertaining game though.
Three of the symbols in this game are theme-related. There’s the flying ace himself and another that looks like an Ace from a set of playing cards in an air-force design. The final theme-related symbol has a rather attractive looking girl sitting on a missile!! The other symbols in the game are the single, double and triple bars.
Wild in the Sky
It’s the flying ace himself who is the wild in this game. He’s not just handy at shooting down enemy aircraft but has the ability to substitute for other symbols to potentially get you winning combinations. Unlike in some games of this nature there is no multiplier attached to any winning combinations the wild creates.
‘Flying Ace’ has five pay-lines which is a reasonably high number for a game with just three reels. If you want to be in with a chance of getting your hands on the top prize in this game, you will need to be activating all the pay-lines. The minimum cost of doing that is €1.25 and the maximum cost of spinning the reels is €100. Simply make sure you enjoy playing this game and don’t gamble any amount you can’t afford to lose.
The top prize available here is 6000x your coin stake if three of the fighter pilot symbols end up on the diagonal fifth pay-line. There is an incentive here to be playing all the pay-lines as three of those symbols on the first four pay-lines pay 1000x, 2000x, 3000x and 4000x respectively.
Other top prizes in the game include 300x for three of the girl on a missile symbols and 100x for three triple bars. Those wins can happen on any of the pay-lines.
It might be that you need a bit of time away from the reels or just can’t be bothered to keep pressing the spin button. If that is the case, then play in expert mode and set an autoplay. This can give you either five or ten automated spins or you can press the autoplay button and set your own figure. That way you can get the automated spins to stop if your account balance reaches a certain level or if a big win comes your way.
Playing the game won’t cause you any problems at all. It’s so easy to set your coin stake (€0.25 to €20) and then to set how many coins on each spin of the reels you want to play. Just press ‘Bet One’ to move it up from one to two to three or four and if you want to play all five just press ‘Bet Max’ and away you go.
This is a battle of the skies that could well prove profitable. It’s a good theme and well adhered to with three theme-related symbols. The wild symbol is useful but sadly no multiplier for wins it creates. Definitely worth a play.
