Reel Strike Slot Review
Fishing might not be everyone’s cup of tea as a pastime, but it’s certainly instilled very nicely in to the slot game from Microgaming entitled Reel Strike. You won’t need to sit by a stream or a river for a long time before you catch anything because this game is flooded with different fish for you to hook. Not only that, but you’ll also have the thematic sounds of water splashing around the place while you cast your line and hope for the best. Every time you form a winning combination, you’ll have a tropical sounding jingle playing at you. And while the graphics and animations included within the game aren’t exceptionally as great as what you’d find in some of the more recent releases from Microgaming, they’re still vibrant and colourful enough to make it an entertaining game on the whole. Not only that, but it makes up for any kind of losses in this area with some intriguing special features, which we’ll move on to shortly.
Catch a Big One!
There’s a very familiar layout on display in this game, which is made up of five reels and three rows in total. And as well as this being a regularly seen video slot layout, there’s a nice selection of symbols included which are related to the base theme. These begin with a selection of five different fish, which are presented in various different colours of red, blue, green, yellow and purple. Further to this, you have two more icons making appearances on the reels, the first of which is the fishing boat that you’re angling from and the other is the lever on the boat that powers it up faster. The other icons included in the game are what provide it with its speciality features.
As well as the reels, rows and icons incorporated into this game, you’ll find that there are also 15 different pay lines. You can customise these by using the ‘Select Lines’ button or by clicking on one of the numbers from either side of the reels. A single coin in this game is valued at $0.50, and you’re able to alter this around by changing the amount of these which are wagered per line. This is able to be adjusted between one and 10, so you’ll find that there’s a maximum overall wager of $75 integrated into the product, and this amount can be reached by pressing the ‘Bet Max’ button.
Angling for a Bite!
There are multiple different specialities included in Reel Strike, and the highest paying symbol of it is the game’s logo. Should five of them show up on a pay line, you’ll be able to receive a maximum pay out of 1,000 coins.
However, there’s also the addition of a wild symbol, and this is represented by the spool of the fishing rod. Wild symbols will always substitute for any other icons on the reels in order to form a winning combination, with the only exceptions being the scatter icon. In an unusual twist to wild icons, this one will also substitute for the game’s bonus symbol and in doing so, it can assist in triggering the bonus round, unless five wilds show up on a winning pay line. If this happens, a maximum pay out of 10,000 coins can be won.
The scatter icon of the game is represented by the shadow of a fish being caught on a hook, and scatter wins are multiplied by the total number of credits staked. If five of them show up in any location on the reels, you’ll receive a multiplier of times 50.
Finally, the bonus icon of the game is that of the boat’s propeller. You’ll need to spin five of these on to any active pay line to trigger the bonus feature. You’re able to win up to seven freespin during this round as well as up to a six times multiplier value. In this round, you need to choose objects to win a random number of either/both of these.
Reel Strike is an entertaining game overall if you’re able to get past the fishing theme of it. The speciality additions to it make it one of the more compelling games in the genre, and it’s also very thematically apt as far as soundtrack, imagery and game play are concerned.
