Have you ever wondered what a party featuring several different owls would look like? Well, obviously someone at Microgaming has, and it was with this base idea in mind that the company went on to create the game, What a Hoot. As such, you’ll get exclusive access to the party, seeing how the owls of the trees celebrate in style. Not only that, but you’ll also get to hear the sounds of the event in full flow, with fast paced, drumming music playing as well as the chit chat of the guests of the party. The game itself is set against a backdrop of a dark night sky, with blue-lit trees at either side of the reels. Graphically speaking, it does make use of some high quality products, so as to give you as entertaining and visually pleasing an experience as possible. So with the party in full flow, the only thing that remains to be asked is, are you ready for a hootin’ good time? If so, check out the details about this game in full below.

Snacks and Finger Food…

As far as the layout of this game is concerned, it takes place on a five reel and three row offering. This is, of course, a fairly regular interface for a video slot, so it should be quite familiar to those who play such games on a frequent basis. On these reels, you’ll find various different icons, starting with the snacks that owls might just have at a big gathering like this. There are five of these lower paying icons, starting with the ready-to-eat acorns, the tasty sunflower seeds, and the in-season conkers. They’re joined by what appears to be a juicy red apple, and the fifth of them is a selection of berries. Finally, there are five higher paying icons, starting with the game’s logo, and followed by four party guests – the owl drinking a cocktail, another perusing an ‘Owl Jokes’ book, a third blowing a party horn, and the fourth clutching on to a corn husk.

Furthermore, alongside the reels, rows and icon, players will find that there’s a total of nine different pay lines incorporated into the game as well. These can be customised at your own leisure, and this is done easily by clicking on a number from either side of the reels, or by using the included ‘Select Lines’ button. In addition, you’re able to alter the amount of the wager that you place per spin, and this is done with the plus and minus buttons at the bottom of the reels. Here, you’ll be able to choose from a wager of between $2.25 and $90 per round across all nine lines.

Are You on the Exclusive List of Guests?

Entering a party such as this one will surely come with some special treats as well, right? Well, yes, in a manner of speaking. The first special feature to be included in the game is its wild icon, and this is represented by a mass of owl eyes peering out from behind some trees in the night. As a wild symbol, this substitutes for all others on the reels, except for scatters, in order to form a winning combination from left to right.

And speaking of the scatter icon, this is represented by what could possibly be a jar of fireflies ready to escape. As a scatter, it will provide a pay out wherever it shows up on the reels, and scatter wins are added to pay line wins. They will multiply your total stake by a specific amount, so if you manage to spin five on to the screen in any location, you’ll receive a multiplier of times 50.

Enjoy the Event!

What a Hoot is a nicely thought out theme for a video slot. It’s a bit of a shame that there aren’t more specialities included, because a wild icon and a scatter are fairly generic for most slots today. A bonus round of some sort would have made this one a bit more appealing on the whole. However, what it does offer will provide players with an entertaining enough product, which sits nicely in the Microgaming portfolio.
