Alakazam! And There’s the Reels!
Magic Portals takes place on a five reel and three row layout, which makes it a fairly familiar set up. On these reels, the developer has made certain to inject every bit of imagery relating to magicians and fantasy. Therefore, you’ll be able to spin your way through symbols of a wizard, an owl coming in for the attack, a red dragon, a majestic wolf, a blue-haired elf girl, and a red-haired evil warlock woman. These icons are joined by three different orbs – one coloured red and having a flame in the centre of it, one coloured green and showing a lightning strike, and the third coloured blue with frost flakes scattered across it. As mentioned previously, the graphics contained in this game are wonderfully integrated, with all of the icons receiving meticulous attention to detail.
On top of this, the developer has added a total of 25 separate pay lines into the interface to accompany the rows and reels. These pay lies are not customisable as they’re fixed in place, but you are able to change around the amount of the wager you place per spin. This is done via the coin value and the bet level, with the former of these being alterable between the minimum of $0.01 and the maximum of $1 per line. As for the bet level, this can be switched between one and 10, meaning that all players have the chance to place a maximum overall bet of $250 per round. ‘Max Bet’ and ‘Auto Play’ buttons have also been incorporated into the layout for further customisation.
What Magical Specialities Does This Game Hold?
You’ll notice in the first instance that the reels have an extra quality to them, which is on the second row on the first and fifth reels. Here, you’ll be able to see vibrant purple rings, which act as the game’s portals. These remain active throughout the duration of the base game, and they’ll increase during the special freespins round. Should two matching symbols – or more, if you’re playing freespins – stop in these portals, all other icons of the same appearing anywhere else on the reels will be transformed into wilds. This includes the two already in the portals, but will exclude any freespins icons that land in such areas.
There’s also a freespins symbol included in the game, and these are represented by the icon with the words, ‘Free Spins’ written across it. These will trigger the relative freespins round if one lands in each of the portals at the same time. An initial amount of 10 freespins will be awarded, and during this round, the entire fifth reel is filled with portals, providing you with even more chance of achieving matching symbols on both the first and fifth reel. Additional freespins can also be won by two more of the icons appearing in the portals during this round.
Cast a Spell and See Your Balance Rise
There’s little doubt that Magic Portals is another fine piece of work from Netent. It’s graphically sound, aurally enticing, and features some wonderful game play to keep you coming back for more. The transforming icons of the base game AND freespins makes it ever more compelling, so you’ll certainly not be short on fascinating things to experience while gaming. Overall, it’s a well-rounded game filled with enough perfectly done extra features to present players with an amazing product.
