As far as games that use the traditional slot products as their basis, Hot Target is probably one of the better ones available. It’s far from being anything graphically superior and far from having the most enticing game play. However, we always think it’s great when a theme such as the classic slots can be taken and turned around a little in order to make an adaptation of such. That’s exactly what Novomatic have managed to achieve in some ways with this one. The developer has still managed to imbue it with the arcade sounding sounds that accompany so many of their products, however, in this particular instance, they do provide an authentic set of tones to have playing while you spin the reels.

A Twist on the Regular

As mentioned, this game takes its influence from the early slot machines. It does, however, have a few of the modern day additions to it. For example, it doesn’t include the regular three reels of a classic slot machine, instead presenting five reels and three rows worth of an interface. On these reels are various icons of fruit, so you’ll find lemons, cherries, watermelons and oranges, as well as the bells and stars from the traditional machines as well. In addition, there are three variations of the BAR icon, with a single BAR being red, a double BAR being blue, and a treble BAR being green. Rounding out the symbols is one of a very colourful jester, presenting some form of newness to the game.

As well as the reels and rows, Novomatic have instilled a total of nine pay lines as well. Players can choose to wager on fewer lines if they so wish to, simply by using the buttons at the bottom of the reels. These allow you to change between a single line, three lines, five lines, seven and finally the full nine. The value of a single credit can be switched around in the game as well, going from $0.50 up to $1.00 and to the maximum of $2. Furthermore, the amount of credits placed into action per line can also be increased from one through to 100, and therefore, the maximum overall wager that players are able to place stands at $900 per spin.

What Kind of Specialities Are Offered?

Acting as a wild symbol, the jester icon mentioned earlier is the highest paying of the game. If you manage to spin five of these on a winning pay line while having the maximum wager placed, you’ll be given a pay out of $500,000. This will also stand in for all other symbols except for the scatter and targets.

There is a scatter icon incorporated into the game, which is represented by the golden star. This pays out wherever it appears on the screen, and three or more of these will present you with 10 freespins of the reels. During this round, there’s the possibility of the target icon with a flame in the middle of it, appearing on the middle reel. This doubles the win meter up to increase your winnings from both that freespin and the following ones.

Finally, with this being a Novomatic game, it’s only bound to feature the gamble game that comes in just about all their products. This is triggered after each winning combination you create on the reels. Once it is, you’ll be given the choice of taking your winnings as they are or playing a side game to try and increase them. Selecting the latter of these options will present you with a deck of playing cards. You need to guess what colour the next card to be turned over will be, either red or black. Guess correctly and your winnings are doubled, but guess incorrectly and you lose them all.

A Better Classic Slot Game

Hot Target is actually one of the better classic slot adaptations out there at the moment. It has a decent couple of special features included in it and it doesn’t stick to the same old, same old formula of “just add some fruit icons and let players spin the reels”. Overall, it provides an entertaining enough game for those who enjoy such traditional takes on games.
