Fruit and Bars
Magic 81 Lines features a standard layout, offering up a total of four reels instead of five, and three rows, so nothing dramatically out of the ordinary is presented here. On these reels, as mentioned, the main icons are represented by the classic fruit symbols, so you’ll be able to spin your way through cherries, lemons, oranges, watermelons, plums and grapes. As an extra harken back to the traditional slots, both 7s and BARs have also been integrated, giving a bit more of an authentic feel to it. Also, as previously noted, you’ll find that the design of these icons does go above what Novomatic usually provide in a lot of their games, especially fruit ones, and therefore, provide this one with a lot more visual appeal.
It’s fairly usual for a game to have a set or maximum number of pay lines included in its interface as well, although this one doesn’t have a clear view of either. Instead, you’ll notice the words, ‘ALL PAY’ scrawled down either side of the reels. It’s fairly difficult to understand what exactly this means from just reading those words, but in total, there are 81 ways to win, hence the title of the game. And while its lines may not be alterable, players can adjust the amount of funds they wager per spin. This is done by using the plus and minus buttons next to the value currently shown, and this starts off from its minimum value of $0.40. It increases up to a total of $100, providing you with the highest possible wager you can place per round.
Because of the fact that this game offers up 81 different ways of winning during its main game, the additional features are exceptionally, and we mean exceptionally, limited. The number 7 icon acts as the game’s biggest paying symbol, with four of these appearing across the reels offering up to $16,000 added to your balance.
The only real addition to this game that players may be a lot more familiar with if they’ve played video slots on a frequent basis is the scatter icon. This is represented by the game’s logo, and pays out wherever it appears on the reels. If you manage to spin three of these, you’ll find yourself receiving a pay out of eight times your total wager placed.
Finally, you’ll find that another fairly redeeming quality of this product is its gamble feature. In its slim pickings, the fact that it has this included in it is a bit of a gift of gold. The feature is triggered at the end of every winning combination created, and this will provide you with the opportunity of being able to increase your winnings significantly. Opting to do this will present you with a side game featuring a deck of playing cards. This is a fairly familiar gamble game from Novomatic, and it will basically require you to guess the colour of the next card to be turned over. Doing so correctly will see your winnings double, while making an incorrect choice will see you lose them all.
Vintage Done Properly?
Well, we’d like to say that Novomatic have created a great product in Magic 81 Lines, but unfortunately, we’d be lying. It’s a decent game for what it is, but the lack of any real kind of special features and the inability to really understand the pay lines from the screen makes it feel a little less interesting than others.
