One for all and all for one! The famous cry is instantly recognisable as you play The Three Muskateers, the online video slot from Playtech. Join forces with Aramis, Porthos and Athos – and not forgetting the incorrigible D’Artagnan – on an expedition to track down and recover the queen’s stolen diamonds.

With an attention-grabbing animated opening sequence, you’ll be instantly riveted by the humorous adventures of this quartet. The graphics on the game itself are vibrant and beautifully designed but don’t quite live up to the expectations set by the lively introduction.

Nevertheless, it’s a good basis for a historical romp that’s set in the middle of unspoilt countryside as you prepare to plunder the enemy’s castle for the stolen jewels. But will your mission be a success? Here’s a review of The Three Muskateers by Playtech with all the info you need to know.

Plan Your Attack

Before you start to play you might want to peruse the road ahead, to prepare yourself for any ambushes along the way. You can do this by checking out the paytable which you can move to by clicking on the info button. This is where you’ll find all the essential info regarding prizes and payouts.

To get a prize you’ll need to land at least three matching symbols along an active payline on consecutive reels moving from left to right. There are a total of 14 different symbols you can land, so matching a line isn’t as easy as it sounds and even when you do, the prizes on offer aren’t quite as high as other slots. The muskets and the swords offer the top payout of 250 for a line of five.

Launch an Assault

If you spend too long thinking about what lies ahead, you’ll end up getting your sword in a pickle so plunge right in and spin the five reels in front of you. Set out in the standard 5×3 formation, there’s a phenomenal 50 paylines making this one of the larger Playtech games. This provides extra chances of winning but not everyone’s budget may be able to accommodate such a large number lines. If so, the good news is that this can be reduced using the buttons on the control panel on screen.

A different way to reduce the overall bet is to lower the coin value and there’s plenty of scope here. Set the value of the coin from between the minimum of 0.01 and the maximum of 100.00. This is the value per line, and not the overall value so make sure you check the “total bet” box before hitting the spin button. There’s a good spread of options within this range so it’s possible to set your stake to a variety of different levels to play.

Daggers, Muskets and Swords

Although the general level of prize payouts is fairly low, there’s some bonuses available on the reels which can help to make up for this fact. Each of the three musketeers represents a different element of the scatter and when combined with a certain weapon, there’s a bonus prize on offer. Aramis offers a cash prize while Porthos and and Athos offer differing combinations of free spins and wilds.

But this isn’t the only bonus, as there’s also the Free Muskateers Free Games. Accessed when the special symbols land on reels 1 and 5, this bonus feature can be retriggered indefinitely and also includes the scatter bonus features and the Queen’s Diamond bonus, too.

The special Queen’s Diamond bonus is left to D’Artagnan to play and you can join him along the route. Unlock the quest when you land the symbols on reels 2 and 4, you’ll have to make key decisions to progress with the mission. Starting with two hearts, you can collect more en route but beware, for every wrong decision you make you’ll lose one! When you run out of hearts the bonus feature will end and you’ll leave with any bonuses you’ve acquired. If you make it right through to the end you could scoop an extra x7 your entire bonus win too.

En Garde!
