Movie adaptations and slowly making their way into the slot game universe, and what better place to start than with an all-time classic? Inspired by the 1939 movie, Wizard of Oz is a video slot game created by WMS that will please fans of one of the most famous stories ever told.

You will get to re-experience the visual universe of the original movie, and look for the bonus features scattered here and there.

Leaving Kansas for Good

As you can easily tell, Wizard of Oz is rather sober in terms of graphics and tries to stick to the original atmosphere of the 1939 adaptation of the story as much as possible. Therefore, the background of the game is a simple blue sky, with the reels in the middle and a large, emerald green command bar at the bottom.

Nothing fancy here at all, but we loved the realistic reel symbols and many references to a cult film that we all know of and that most of us have probably even seen. We might be a little biased, but let’s look past this and check out the gameplay in our next section.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Wizard of Oz uses a familiar set of command, especially if you have had the chance to play other WMS games in the past. The arrows in the command bar will let you activate as many as 30 paylines on the 5 reels of the game, with a bet range stretching from 0.30 to 150 credits per turn maximum. Use the autoplay game mode to choose your next wager freely and place it on the reel several times in a row.

Wizard of Oz is a medium-volatility slot game, which gives players a fair chance to win a big prize on almost every spin. The RTP is just as average, and we could score some medium-range prizes quite early after we started playing. The paytable features a lot of references to the story of Dorothy, including tornadoes, air balloons, witches, a pair of ruby slippers, the tin man, lion, scarecrow and more, for a maximum prize of x750 in the base game. This puts Wizard of Oz at the generous end of the spectrum for WMS game, which is of course great news. And we haven’t even mentioned the special features yet.

One-Way Ticket to Emerald City

You can really feel the magic in Wizard of Oz when you score one of the many bonus features of the game. The wild card, for instance, is the game logo and can both replace the basic icons on the reels and trigger a prize going up to x1000. The jackpot symbol is much rarer, but a combination of 5 of the is worth a whopping x10,000 super prize.

With Emerald City symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5, you will get to choose a special reward: either a random cash prize, a round of free spins or access to an original bonus round named the Winged Monkey. Choose wisely and follow the instructions that pop up on the screen. Last but not least, Glenda the good witch can make an appearance during the base game at random and turn a random number of reels into wilds.

A Game That Makes the Magic Come True

Wizard of Oz might be an average slot game statistically speaking, and with rather basic graphics, the magic becomes reality when the bonus features are triggered. We were able to score big wins thanks to the wilds quite easily, even though the jackpot symbol is much rarer on the reels. The other features are also rather accessible and really add something to the base game.

Wizard of Oz is a slot game that we can recommend to almost any player, and if you are a real fan of the franchise then you can look forward to Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers and Wizard of Oz Wicked Riches, two other adaptations of the famous story by WMS.
